Your anxiety over this package, though natural to the flesh, has brought no good to your soul nor speed to your feet. Have you not found out yet that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty, unfits you to meet that difficulty? The present is the most godless generation that ever trod this earth, I verily believe, but you must not join them in fretting as though God were not on His throne. There is no attribute of God more comforting to His children than the doctrine of Divine Sovereignty. Could any but a divine motive actuate the Divine Architect? He creates that He may display His own perfections, and He permits these small trials that you may trace His hand in everything.
Do you think that a package left on the street lies outside the circle of His providence? Not so. We must trace Divine Sovereignty in all such cases. Whether it be strength of limbs and lungs, force of brain and intellect, cunning works or scheming plans you rely upon, He will lay you level with the dust ere long. You shall know that He who exalteth himself against his Maker maketh a sorry adventure. Your cancelled plans and hurried return are but the fluttering of the eaglet when the eagle stirs the nest; you do not yet see the Divine Wisdom and Infinite Affection in it all, but if you could read the whole in the light of eternity, you would bless the hand which tears away your comforts.
What remarkable preservations of life have we enjoyed; not miraculous, certainly, but full of wonder for all that. Divine interpositions come in the way of deliverance from floods of trouble, and this lost parcel may yet be restored to your hand, if it pleases Him. But I charge you, do not rest your hope upon the recovery of mere goods. You are in debt to Divine Justice and hopelessly bankrupt, for you cannot meet one in a million of the claims that are recorded against you! How can you rest as long as you are thus indebted to God? When He saves by His Grace, there is no quarrel with the Divine Savior; Emmanuel, God With Us, is very precious to the Believer.
The dry tree by Divine Grace shall flourish; the green tree, deserted by the dew of heaven, shall dry up. The low tree, fostered by the Husbandman, shall mount even to the stars; the high tree, cut down by the axe of judgment, shall lay outstretched along the plains of ruin for ever. Your safety lies not in a parcel delivered, but in the cleft of the Rock where Divine gentleness has restrained the blow of the Law against you. Some of us never can forget the rapture all Divine when He showed us His hands and His feet, and said, "I have suffered all this for you." There was peculiar gentleness about that first action of God the Holy Spirit. Seek that cleansing; then you shall be as clear of sin, in God's sight, as if you had never sinned. That long list of your sins which now so greatly troubles you, shall be cancelled. There shall be written at the bottom of it, "Forgiven."
Now, to the matter at hand: the presence of God dissolves difficulties. Blessed be God, the Church only needs the Divine Presence in the midst of her and all the systems of error will flow down at His feet like glaciers which dissolve in the summer's sun. If He can melt systems of error, can He not guard a small box from the hands of thieves? Plead with Him to do so, but plead chiefly that His Divine Spirit would display His power over your unlikely heart. He can save the most obstinate and bring opposers to the feet of Jesus. And when you arrive at your door, whether you find the package or find it stolen, know this: Divine Love can rake a dunghill and find a diamond. There is no spot where God's Grace cannot and will not go. His divine Spirit wrought all your works in you, and here you are, in your anxiety, to say, "He hath delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling." Render calamity impossible and what mark would there be of the Divine displeasure for man's revolt? Trust, then, the Divine Architect.
Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
