Satan On His Travels
Multitudinous Thoughts and Sacred Comforts
Mary Magdalene
We hear your cry for protection and we stand with you together before our Heavenly Father in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, seeking His covering over your body and mind. We know that these attacks and disturbances in your sleep are not to be taken lightly, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. Yet we do not fear, for the enemy has already been defeated at the cross, and greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4.

We encourage you to daily put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil Ephesians 6:11. This means abiding in His Word, praying without ceasing, and walking in obedience. The Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one 2 Thessalonians 3:3. When fear or torment tries to press on your mind, remember that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. We urge you to resist the devil by submitting yourself to God, and he will flee from you James 4:7. Before you sleep, fill your mind and your home with praise, prayer, and Scripture, casting every anxious thought on Him, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. He who keeps you will neither slumber nor sleep Psalm 121:4, so you can rest knowing He watches over you through the night, for in peace you will both lay yourself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make you live in safety Psalm 4:8.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. We ask for Your divine protection over their body and mind, and we rebuke every spiritual attack, every assignment of darkness, and every disturbance that has troubled their sleep. Cover them with the shadow of the Most High, for he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty Psalm 91:1. Let Your holy angels encamp around them and let Your peace fill their bedroom. Wash their mind with Your truth, remove all fear, oppression, and heaviness, and grant them deep, undisturbed, restorative sleep. Strengthen them to stand firm in the faith and to walk in the authority You have given us through Jesus. We declare that no weapon that is formed against them will prosper, and that You will establish and guard them from the evil one. Fill them with Your power, love, and a sound mind, and let them awake refreshed to glorify You. We ask all this in the powerful and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.

We have been praying for you since we read your request, and we hear how exhausting this has been. Relentless pressure on both body and mind, night after night without real rest, wears a person down in every way. It makes sense you would ask for protection and peace.

We do not take lightly that you named sleep. God made us to need a third of our lives in sleep, and it is deeply connected to our peace and strength. When sleep is broken, everything feels more vulnerable. Please know God sees this need and cares about your rest.

It can help not to carry this alone. If you have a pastor or a steady, mature believer you trust, we encourage you to invite them to pray with you in person and to stay aware of how you are doing. And because ongoing sleep trouble touches both body and mind, we also encourage you to check in with your doctor alongside prayer, just to make sure you have support for your health.

Father, we lift our friend to You right now. We ask in Jesus' name for Your protection over body and mind, for quiet and safety through the night, and for wisdom for each next step. Cover them with Your peace and keep them close to You. Amen.

Your cry for protection in these relentless assaults upon body and mind has been heard, and we join with you in seeking the Lord who alone is able to deliver.

There is a word of sure comfort for you in the gospel, that God is gracious and says, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. Job 33:24. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance from the pit through a ransom if God had not thought of it, but He has not only invented the way, He has found the ransom Himself in His dear Son. In Christ Jesus you have not only deliverance from the guilt of sin, but deliverance from the power of darkness, for it is written, He has delivered us from the power of darkness. Colossians 1:13. That deliverance is as much the work of God as pardon itself, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it.

We know that sleep itself is the gift of God, for so He giveth His beloved sleep. Psalm 127:2. It is not merely that we lay our heads upon our pillows and compose ourselves, but the Lord must give the rest. When deep sleep falls upon men, He can open the ear and seal instruction and keep back the soul from the pit. Even when you are chastened with pain upon your bed and disturbances in the night, remember that troubles do not spring out of the dust, but the Lord Himself sits as a Refiner at the door of the furnace. That which comes by His fatherly hand, though it be sore chastening, is meant for profit, and He who appoints it is He who will bring you through it, that you may say with the psalmist, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

Therefore let us pray that you may be kept wakeful in soul while you seek rest for your body, for the apostle says, let us not sleep as do others. May the Lord keep you sober and watchful against the adversary who shoots his arrows in the dark, and may He grant you that peaceful sleep which belongs to His beloved.

We pray now for you: O gracious Father, who has found a ransom for sinners in the precious blood of Jesus Christ Thy Son, we beseech Thee to deliver this afflicted one from all the attacks of the enemy and from the disturbances that break the rest of night. Cover body and mind with the power of Thy grace. Rebuke the power of darkness and let Thy peace guard heart and thoughts through Christ Jesus. Grant quiet sleep as Thou givest to Thy beloved, and let waking and sleeping be under Thy keeping. Bring this tried soul out of distress into liberty, that being delivered, he may live to declare Thy works. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour and Ransom, Amen.
