Protection from spiritual attacks

We join with you in seeking the Lord for protection and peace, and we stand together against these relentless attacks on your body and mind in the mighty name of Jesus.

We know that our struggle is real and spiritual, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. Yet we take comfort that greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4, and that the angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them Psalm 34:7.

The enemy seeks to steal peace and disturb rest, but God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. He promises His children rest, for you will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Yahweh, make us live in safety Psalm 4:8, and he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty Psalm 91:1. He gives sleep to his beloved Psalm 127:2.

We encourage you to continue to resist the enemy by submitting yourselves to God and resisting the devil and he will flee from you James 4:7. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil Ephesians 6:11, with truth, righteousness, the preparation of the Good News of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God Ephesians 6:14-17. Fill your mind and your home before sleep with worship, prayer, and Scripture, turn from anything that may give the enemy a foothold, and invite the Holy Spirit to reign in every room and every thought. The Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one 2 Thessalonians 3:3.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and have access to You. We lift up this dear one to You who is weary from attacks on body and mind and broken sleep. We ask for Your covering and deliverance. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. We rebuke every spiritual attack and every spirit of fear, oppression, and torment, and we command them to leave in Jesus name, for at His name every knee must bow. Wash this mind with Your truth, heal this body, and command Your angels to keep charge over this life Psalm 91:11. Let sleep be sweet and undisturbed, let night be filled with Your presence and not with disturbance, and let waking be with joy and strength renewed. Teach us to abide in You daily and to walk in Your light, trusting that no weapon that is formed against us will prosper Isaiah 54:17. We ask this according to Your will, trusting in Your power and love, in Jesus name Amen.

We hear how wearying this has been for you, feeling pressed on both body and mind and not even finding relief in sleep. When nights are broken like that, days can feel much more vulnerable, and it makes sense you would ask so urgently for protection.

We believe sleep matters deeply to God. He designed us to need rest for a third of our lives, and restful sleep is part of how He restores us and quiets our souls. When that rest is disturbed, it can affect our peace and our sense of closeness to Him, which is why caring for both your spiritual life and your physical health together is so important.

You don't need to carry this alone. We encourage you to let a pastor or a couple of trusted believers know what you are experiencing so they can pray with you regularly and check in on you. And because ongoing sleep disturbances take a toll on the body and mind, we also gently encourage you to talk with your doctor about what you are experiencing, alongside prayer, so you have support in both areas.

Father, we lift our friend to You tonight. We ask for Your protection over body and mind, for Your nearness in the night, and for the gift of peaceful, restorative rest according to Your will. Guard our friend from fear and bring calm, strength, and wisdom for each next step. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.

Your request for protection from these relentless assaults upon body and mind, and for relief from disturbed sleep, has been heard and carried before the Lord with earnest prayer.

There is indeed a spiritual conflict, and the enemy would rob you of rest and peace if he could. Yet remember the word of the Lord, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. That perfect peace is not drawn from our own strength, nor from any charm of this world, but from the blood of Jesus which whispers peace within. When the mind is stayed upon Christ, when sorrow and fear are borne with Him, He gives a peace that cannot be taken away by force or fraud, even with sorrows surging round.

Our Lord Jesus left this legacy to His own when He was about to depart, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. This is first peace with God through His atoning blood, and then peace in the conscience, the publication of that treaty in the heart. It is this peace which guards the soul when Satan is fierce in his temptations. You cannot work this peace out yourself, you must seek it from the Lord Himself, and He delights to bless His people with peace.

And concerning sleep, hear the sweet promise, So he giveth his beloved sleep. Sleep is the gift of God, and the rest He gives to His beloved is more than the closing of the eyes. It is the quiet of a conscience right with God, at peace with the world, with self, and with Him. The world is a state of tossing to and fro, but the Lord can make even the night season to be a chamber of peace, and keep you safe under His watch.

Let us pray for you now.

O Lord our God, we bring this afflicted one before Your throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Saviour. Plead the blood of Your Son over body and mind, and let that precious blood whisper perfect peace within. Rebuke the adversary and every disturbance that would harass by day or by night. Keep this mind stayed upon You, and keep this life in Your perfect peace as trust is placed in You alone. Forgive all sin, quiet the conscience through reconciliation by Christ, and publish that peace within. Give Your beloved sleep, gracious Lord, undisturbed and refreshing, for You neither slumber nor sleep but watch over Your own. Bless with Your own peace which comes from lips that cannot lie and from a heart which cannot change. Let this soul know that in Jesus keeping we are safe. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Cast your cares upon Him before you lie down, feed your mind upon His promises, and pray that He would keep you. He who has reconciled you unto Himself will not leave you unguarded.
