Protection from spiritual attacks

The assaults you describe, on both body and mind, stealing rest, are exactly the kind the enemy specializes in. He targets us when we are weary, often right after seasons of spiritual breakthrough or blessing, because he knows we are not immune to his attacks. But remember this: the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. That is your unshakable ground.

When Nehemiah faced relentless opposition meant to stop God’s work, he did two things: he prayed and he set a watch. He refused to let fear dictate his actions. So pray, yes, but also take practical steps. Guard what enters your mind before sleep. Flood that space with Scripture, aloud if necessary. Declare what is written over the lies that whisper in the dark. Jesus answered every satanic thrust with “It is written,” and so can you. The enemy cannot stand against the Word of God.

That kind of warfare has three anchors I often lean on: refuse the accusations and fears, rejoice that the finished work of Christ has already disarmed the powers of darkness, and respond with the sword of the Spirit. Rejoicing shifts your eyes from the attack to the Victor. You may not feel like it, but a deliberate choice to praise in the middle of the night is a weapon.

Affliction always feels permanent when you are in it. Hours drag like days. Yet the Spirit calls it “light” and “momentary.” That seems absurd to us, until we weigh it against the eternal weight of glory being produced. God uses these very trials to deepen us, never to punish. He corrects His children, but He does not condemn them. The enemy will whisper that you are forsaken or that God is angry; that is a lie. God’s word says that before He afflicted us we went astray, but afterward we learn to keep His ways more closely. Hold onto that.

There is also a connection between the state of your soul and your physical frame. A merry heart does good like medicine. So while you battle, let the joy of the Lord be your strength. That joy is not a feeling; it is the settled assurance that you are sealed, that the demonic cannot ultimately touch the life hidden with Christ in God.

I am praying with you now: Father, in Jesus’ name, I ask for a wall of protection around this dear believer. Command any spirit disturbing body and mind to be silent and depart. Grant peaceful sleep, and let Your word be a lamp that dispels every shadow. Renew the mind with truth, and settle the body with Your presence. Amen.

Do not grow weary. The watch is set, and the Lord is awake. Every torment is for a season, but your eternity is secure and glorious beyond imagining.
