Beloved of All
🙇🏻 Dear Lord Jesus in Heaven, thank You for warning us to beware of greed at all times, Lk 12:15. The goal of Your instruction is love 💕from a purified heart, a sincere faith and a good conscience, 1 Tim 1:5. The love of money is a scary thing to observe, having witnessed the truth of 1 Tim 6:9-10. Please "keep deception and lies far from us, give us neither poverty nor riches, but feed us what is sufficient for us," Prov 30:8. If riches increase, let us not set our heart on them, Ps 62:10, but rather be humble, know they are uncertain, and use them to be rich in good deeds, 1 Tim 6:17-18. Help us have contentment with godliness (which is a means of intangible riches), 1 Tim 6:6, since the entire earth is the Lord's, as well as those who dwell in it, Ps 24:1. Keep us from covetousness, Ex 20:17, and help us not love the world or anything in it lest the love of The Father be forfeited, 1 Jn 2:15. Help us see that is antithetical to our highest and chief goal to love You with everything we have and evangelize the lost and rub off Your love on our neighbors, Mark 12:30-31. Keep us from the desire for other things that choke out the Word of God, Mark 4:18-19. Keep us from temptation, Luke 11:4, sin, Zeph 3:13, 1 Cor 8:1, false believers, 2 Tim 3:5 and the evil one who blinds eyes, hearts minds and the world, Rev 12:9, Matt 6:13, John 17:15, 1 Jn 5:18. Thank You in Jesus' Name, Phil 4:6-7, Amen, Rev 3:14, 2 Cor 1:20.

We join together with you in this beautiful and biblically grounded prayer and we thank God for the hunger for righteousness and purity of heart that you have expressed.

Your request rightly identifies greed and covetousness as a deadly spiritual danger. As our Lord warned in Luke 12:15, a man's life does not consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses, and we are commanded to beware of covetousness at all times. The love of money indeed is a root of all kinds of evil as taught in 1 Tim 6:10, and we have seen how in 1 Tim 6:9 those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts which plunge men into ruin and destruction. It is the desire for other things that chokes the word and makes it unfruitful as Jesus taught in Mark 4:18-19.

We agree with you that the antidote is not mere willpower but love, the goal of the commandment being love from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith as in 1 Tim 1:5. When we love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength as in Mark 12:30, there is no room left for the love of the world. And when that love overflows to our neighbor as ourselves as in Mark 12:31, we are freed from selfish ambition to instead seek how we may be rich in good works. We also rejoice that you prayed in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we have access to the Father and no other name by which we can be saved.

We pray together now for you and for all who share this burden.

Father in heaven, we thank You for Your warning and Your wisdom. We ask You to keep deception and lies far from us and to give us neither poverty nor riches but to feed us with the food that is needful for us as in Prov 30:8. Grant us godliness with contentment which is great gain as in 1 Tim 6:6. Help us to remember that the earth is Yours and all its fullness as in Ps 24:1, so that all we have is stewardship from Your hand. If riches increase, we ask for grace not to set our hearts on them as in Ps 62:10, but to be humble and not trust in uncertain riches but to do good and be rich in good works and ready to share as in 1 Tim 6:17-18. Keep us from covetousness which violates Your command in Ex 20:17, and help us not to love the world or the things that are in the world, so that the love of the Father may remain in us as in 1 John 2:15. Keep us from temptation as we pray in Matt 6:13 and Luke 11:4, deliver us from the evil one who prowls and blinds the minds of many as in Rev 12:9 and John 17:15, and keep us from sin and from the appearance of godliness without its power as in 2 Tim 3:5. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard our hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus as in Phil 4:6-7. We ask this in the faithful and true name of Jesus our Amen as in Rev 3:14, knowing that all Your promises are Yes and Amen in Him as in 2 Cor 1:20.

We encourage you to continue to cultivate this contentment daily by thanksgiving, by generosity, and by fixing your eyes on Christ. Continue to meditate on these scriptures and to evangelize and to love your neighbors practically, for that outward love is evidence that the inward love for God is genuine. The Lord will keep you as you abide in Him, for He who was begotten of God keeps us and the evil one does not touch us as in 1 John 5:18.

We appreciated the honesty and care in your prayer. Wanting a purified heart that loves God fully and loves neighbors well is a beautiful desire, and we hear how seriously you take the warning about greed and how easily the desire for other things can crowd out what matters most.

What has helped others we walk with is remembering that greed often speaks to a deeper worry that what we have will not be enough, while generosity grows as we rest in the truth that God sees us and cares for our needs, and that more things cannot fill the place only He can. Holding that in mind can make it easier to notice when a want starts to pull at your heart.

One small practice that may help this week is to pause when you sense that pull and bring that specific want to God in a simple, honest sentence, and then look for one ordinary way to be generous with what you already have, whether time, attention or resources, toward someone near you.

Father, we bring our brother before You and thank You for his desire to walk humbly and contentedly with You. Guard his heart from deception and keep him close to You. Grow in him love for You and for his neighbors, and give him wisdom to use what You provide for good. Keep him from temptation and the snares of the evil one, and fill him with Your peace as he trusts You day by day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your petition is a wise and scriptural one, and it is good that you have taken the warning of our Lord to heart, when He said, Take heed and beware of covetousness, for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

You will see at once that contentment in all states is not a natural propensity of man. Covetousness, discontent and murmuring are as natural to man as thorns are to the soil, and ill weeds grow apace without cultivation. But contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated. It does not spring up by nature, it must be planted and watered by grace, and tended by the Holy Spirit. You have prayed aright when you ask the Lord to give you neither poverty nor riches, but to feed you with food convenient for you, lest riches increase and your heart be set upon them, or poverty tempt you to dishonesty. The love of money is indeed a root of all kinds of evil, and many have been pierced through with sorrows who have coveted after it and have seen the Word choked by the desire for other things.

The true antidote to this greed is that love of which you speak, to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind and with all thy strength. All conquering love is master of all our forces. When the love of God is manifestly shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, our duty becomes our highest delight. We are not loved out of the pit by terror nor driven by power, but we are loved out by love itself. He has drawn us with bands of love and cords of a man, and having spent so much love upon us at Calvary, He binds us to Himself with fresh bonds. There another stream of love springs up at the foot of the Cross. And then there ariseth out of our own hearts the perfume of another love, born of the first and like unto it, the love of our renewed hearts towards our God. This love is a spark of the eternal flame of God's love for us, may it never be quenched.

Therefore I would have you drink abundantly of that love. It is true you have drunk out of the chalice of His love, but He again invites you, saying, Drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved. Do not be afraid of being too happy in the Lord, or of having too much assurance of His love. Labor to realize more of Him, taking in the whole truth of God concerning His person by meditation and reverent simplicity, that you may know more of that love which passeth knowledge. For if Christ doth but touch the eyes so that you get one glimpse of the Saviour's beauty, you must infallibly be so enamored of Him that you will love Him beyond all others, and the glitter of gold will lose its power to charm you.

We join our prayer with yours, that the Lord would keep deception and lies far from you, and keep you from covetousness and from loving the world or the things in the world. May He grant you that godliness with contentment which is great gain, and teach you to be humble and not to trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God who giveth us richly all things to enjoy, that you may be rich in good deeds. Since the earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof, you may rest content with such things as you have, knowing that He will never leave you nor forsake you. And may that love which you have toward Christ rub off upon your neighbors, as you love them as yourself and seek their good, that they may see in you the gentle and generous spirit of one who is drawn by bands of love and who lives not for gain but for glory.

May the Spirit of God love you into a fuller enjoyment of the Saviour's love, and keep you from temptation and from the evil one, and make your heart to be established in that purified love which cometh from a good conscience and sincere faith, to the praise of Him who hath redeemed you.

Your prayer is good and according to Scripture, and I join my voice with yours in thanking the Lord for His warning to watch and beware of covetousness.

Greed is not a small fault but a bitter tyranny. It enslaves the soul and makes it love money itself, whether much or little, and that love is the root of all evil. It is darkness that does not let us see things as they are, so that we lose sight of what is truly beautiful and lasting. We have seen how it made even Judas betray his Lord for thirty pieces of silver, and how it causes a man to lose at once his money, his soul, and his life to come. To desire more than we need is already to have fallen into its snare, and if we do not cut it out we will hear at the last, depart from Me, I never knew you.

The antidote you have named is the true one, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Many things draw us away from that love, above all the path of mammon which lays hold of the soul and drags it away, but God Himself can direct our hearts into His love. Show that love by works. If we love Him more than money we will prove that we love Him more than ourselves. Contentment with godliness is great gain. It is right to pray as you have prayed, keep deception far from us, give us neither poverty nor riches but feed us with food sufficient for us, and if riches increase not to set our heart on them. The earth is the Lord's and all who dwell in it, and He has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you, so we can boldly say, the Lord is my helper, I will not fear.

When God does entrust us with more, His will is that we be humble, knowing riches are uncertain, and be rich in good deeds, ready to share. Alms and good deeds are called a blessing, and they store up treasure for the future. We are to use this world as not abusing it, having as though we possessed not, and rejoicing as though we rejoiced not, so that the desire for other things does not choke the Word. And love for our neighbor must be without pretense, hating what is evil and clinging to what is good, so that the love we have received from God rubs off on those around us and draws the lost to Him.

I pray with you now. Father, keep us from covetousness and from love of the world, keep us from temptation and from the snares of the evil one, and keep our hearts pure, sincere in faith and with a good conscience. Fill us with love for You above all things, and teach us to be content with what You provide, to be generous with what You entrust to us, and to love our neighbors as ourselves for the sake of Christ. Guard Your Word in us so it bears fruit, and let our lives be a witness of Your grace. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
