Your prayer for the little ones has been heard with deep sympathy and thankfulness, for it is a prayer after the heart of the Good Shepherd Himself.
How precious in the sight of the Lord are these children and young ones, of whom our Saviour said that their angels do always behold the face of our Father which is in heaven, Matt 18:10, and of whom it is written that from a child they may know the holy scriptures which are able to make them wise unto salvation, 2 Tim 3:15. To ask for them angelic keeping, the love of God shed abroad in their hearts by the Holy Spirit, Rom 5:5, and a shepherd's care to feed them with wisdom and knowledge, is to ask according to the will of God.
We join you in casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you and for your sheep, John 10:27. He will stand and feed His flock in the strength of the Lord, Micah 5:4, and He gathers the lambs with His arm and carries them in His bosom, Isa 40:11. What comfort to know that the Lord is our Shepherd, Psalm 23, and that His rod and His staff do comfort us and keep us from fear.
You have well prayed that He would give His angels charge over them, Psalm 91:11, and that the angel of the Lord would encamp round about them that fear Him, Psalm 34:7. Take these promises to heart, yet remember also that this angelic protection is afforded to us in appointed ways. It is in the way of childlike trust in providential guidance, when we wait upon God to know what we shall do and dare not lean upon our own understanding. It is not for those who presume and say we may do as we like because we are God's children, but for those who walk humbly in the ways of obedience. So we pray for angelic keeping for you and for all your household, for your youngster, his cousins, nieces and nephews, friends, parents, and all the children of the congregation. You will always need divine and angelic keeping, for God would not have charged His angels to keep His people in all their ways if they did not need protection in all their ways. This protection is perpetual as well as personal, and we may ask the Lord daily to guard us with His celestial hosts, lest in any of our ways, be they rough or smooth, we fall to our hurt.
We pray also that the Lord will keep these little ones from evil and from evil men, 2 Thess 3:2, and from those who would cause one of these little ones to stumble, for it were better for such a one that a millstone were hanged about his neck, Luke 17:2. May the Lord strengthen mothers and fathers in Israel and all who watch over the young, to guard the flock of God among them, Acts 20:28, and to discern the wolves, even when they come as impostors. May He heal any who have been hurt, and grant to them the power through the Holy Spirit to know the breadth and length and depth and height of the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, Eph 3:18, even that love wherewith He first loved us, 1 John 4:10.
Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you, James 4:7. Put on the whole armour of God, and overcome evil with good, for the children of the God of love must meet evil not with evil but with love and prayer, Rom 12:21. Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, that you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.
We will pray with you that all things shall work together for good according to the counsel of His will, Rom 8:28, Eph 1:11, and for the furtherance of the gospel, Phil 1:12, and that the church which Christ builds upon Himself shall prevail against the gates of hell, Matt 16:18.
May the Lord keep your minds and bodies from the evil one, keep your eyes from beholding evil, and cause His Word to dwell richly in these young hearts from their youth. May He draw the weary and heavy laden to find rest under His easy yoke, Matt 11:28, and keep you all in perfect peace as you trust in Him.
We commend you and all your little ones and your extended family to Him who is able to keep you from falling, trusting that He who has begun a good work will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. In the name and authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom all power is given in heaven and in earth, Matt 28:18, we ask these mercies. Amen.
