Hi, I just got the urge to write again, this came out of me-
Properties of Salt
The scripture says Christians are supposed to be "salt and light". (Matthew 5:13) I felt like I should do some research on the properties of salt, this is what came to me!
There are several distinct properties of salt. Salt is the main thing that gives food flavor, if you have ever had sodium-free food it tastes terrible! Saltiness is one of the most basic human tastes, there is an area of your tongue that is dedicated to tasting saltiness! Salt is also essential for the health of the human body and is needed for nerve transmission, muscle function, and fluid balance! Iodized salt prevents iodine deficiency and growth of a goitre. Both humans and animals would die without sodium in their diet! Salt is also an important food preservative and inhibits the growth of bacteria and also draws out moisture. Salt is also essential in a number of industrial activities and is used to produce sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, chlorine, and sodium bicarbonate. Salt also lowers the freezing point of water and is useful for de-icing roads in the winter! Salt is also an excellent conductor of electricity in its molten form!
Salt is an excellent conductor of electricity when combined with water! Just like this when spiritual "salt" (as described in Matthew 5:13) is mixed with the living water inside of us it becomes a strong conductor of God's power (electricity) and God's power will flow through us!
While we are called to be "salt and light" we can become too salty and this is a negative thing, if a human being consumes too much salt it can lead to high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke and kidney disease and can potentially be fatal. Just like this if we become too "salty" spiritually it is going to harm our spiritual heart and could potentially kill us spiritually! If we are too "salty" we can also become a "dead sea" as with the dead sea in Israel, the holy land. The dead sea is dead because salt water flows into it but does not flow out, the water in the dead sea evaporates and the salt concentration goes up and up until it is completely dead, nothing can live in the dead sea! The cure for being too salty is to let "salt" flow out of us (in the form of blessing others), as with the dead sea (the dead sea's salt concentration would go down if water flowed out of it and it would no longer be "dead").
