Privacy And Respecting Others

In light of some recent prayer requests about stalking and the like, I thought I would share a couple of links and scriptures that I hope will be helpful reading. Another reason for this post is I know what it's like to be stalked and spied on without cause, and also know that I am not alone. One excuse some people attempt to give is that it's "for your own good, we're looking after you." Well, when it comes to the safety and well-being of an individual, if they don't even know you are doing it, nothing could be further from the truth. Especially if there is an ulterior motive. (Hebrews 4:12)

If you have read up lately about the NSA and the "Patriot Act", and the ability that private citizens now have to bug the electronics of other individuals, you know that this well-meaning behavior has pretty-much run rampant to the point some don't even know who their real friends are any more. You literally don't always know who is watching you and for what purpose, it could be your next-door neighbor. God has given mankind the gift of free will that is so often abused under the guise of "good intentions". That is the most dangerous motive I can think of to meddle too much in the business of an acquaintance, let alone a brother or sister in Christ.

If you feel that someone has spoken against a brother or sister, or is spreading unnecessary gossip, don't take it for face value. Even if you think it is "good" gossip, you would be much better off speaking to the individual who is the subject, just to check out the validity of the story, or what you thought you heard, before spreading it. Imagine how you would feel if you found out someone you hardly know was scoping every aspect of your private life, causing unnecessary distress. This is the way of the world and a tool to divide and conquer the structure of humanity, which is also used by the corrupt leaders in power today. Sometimes even good intentions backfire and keep a person from progressing further in their lives and in their walk with Christ.

People will have their opinions of you and other people. They will come to conclusions about world events and the direction our and other governments are going in, as it should be. But opinions about the private lives of others, unless asked for in the form of advice, should be off-limits.
With that said, I wanted to share this article with scriptural references on what God says about spying and meddling. May God bless and keep you.

What the Bible says about Spying

"The Bible makes a few references ‘to spying out the land’. This was done when the Israelites were at war against other nations. A few spies were sent to enemy territory to assess the landscape and the size of the army they would need before going into battle. There is no scripture in the old or new testament where God encourages his people to spy on the personal lives of fellowmen or even their enemies. There is a huge difference between 'spying out the land' and 'spying upon someone's freedom'. In the book of Galatians the bible makes reference to 'false brothers' who infiltrate the congregation to 'spy upon [the] freedom' of true Christians (Galatians 2:4,5)."
