Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer for your daughter and her unborn child has been heard, and the weight you are carrying for them is understood. To see a daughter who is pregnant and already physically weakened by severe nausea and dehydration living in the middle of ongoing verbal and psychological attacks is heartbreaking, and it is right that you have brought this before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus.
Scripture shows us that the Lord has special awareness of how vulnerable a woman is when she is pregnant or nursing a child. When Jesus spoke of coming hardship He said it would be especially hard for those who are pregnant and for mothers with little children, because their need for protection and rest is so great and flight is so difficult. Your daughter is in that very place of vulnerability right now, carrying her third child in her second trimester while her body is struggling to stay nourished and her home is filled with strife. God sees her weakness and the strain on that little life within her.
He also sees the way marriage is meant to be. From the beginning God made two to become one, a deep and complete unity where husband and wife are joined together as one flesh. That oneness is meant to be a place of safety and love, not of fear, manipulation and verbal assault. A painful family history may help explain where angry patterns were learned, but it does not excuse them. What your son in law is doing in gaslighting, provoking fights and tearing down his wife with words is sin against God and against his own household, and it needs to be confronted and repented of, not continued.
There is hope because Jesus still has power to touch and heal where we are helpless. One father came and bowed at the feet of Jesus and begged Him to come and lay His hands on his little daughter who was at the point of death, believing that even one touch from Jesus could make her live. Another woman who had suffered for years with bleeding believed that if she could only touch Jesus she would be made whole, and Jesus turned to her and said her faith had made her whole and she could go in peace. Mark shows us these two stories together to reveal the same truth, that the touch of Jesus makes a difference whether the need is long term sickness or the power of death itself. Your daughter needs that touch now for her body, for her emotions, for her spirit, and for the child she carries.
And we can remember how God works redemption even through broken family stories. When Judah would have condemned Tamar, God in His mercy wove her life into the very lineage through which Christ would come. That does not excuse sin, but it shows that God is able to bring grace and purpose out of painful and twisted family histories when people turn to Him.
Let us pray together for you, for your daughter and her baby, and for your household.
Father, in the name of Jesus we come to You for this daughter and her unborn child. You know the nausea, the dehydration and the weakness she is enduring, and You know the harsh words and manipulation that have filled her home. We ask You to command peace in that house and to stop the arguing and verbal abuse. Place Your protection over this mother and this child, guard their bodies, their minds and their spirits, and cause them to thrive. Touch her body and heal this severe sickness so she can be nourished and strengthened. Convict her husband of his abusive speech and behavior, bring him to genuine repentance, and teach him to love his wife as Christ loves the church. Give wisdom to this mother and grandmother who long for a safe and quiet place to live, and in Your time and way provide what is needed for them to have refuge, whether that means change in this home or a way to move to a safer place. Help them to find wise, godly counsel and practical help nearby, and medical care for the pregnancy, and surround them with people who will protect and support them. We ask this trusting that Your power is still the same to heal, to deliver and to make whole. Amen.
Keep bringing your daughter before Jesus as that father did, with humble and persistent faith. Keep trusting that if you reach out to Him, His touch can bring wholeness where there has been wounding. He hears the cries of mothers and grandmothers who intercede for their children, and He is able to bring peace where there has been turmoil and life where there has been affliction.
