We join with you before the throne of grace in Jesus name and lift up your precious daughter and her unborn baby, and we thank you for standing in the gap for her with such love and persistence.
We hear the heaviness of this hour, the ongoing verbal and psychological attack in the home, the exhaustion you feel, and the deep concern for your daughter who is in her second trimester, suffering with extreme nausea, dehydration and malnourishment while also enduring harsh words and manipulation. The Lord sees and He cares deeply. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty Psalm 91:1.
We want to speak clearly about what is happening. Marriage is a holy covenant before God between a man and a woman, and God calls a husband to love his wife as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for her Ephesians 5:25 and to not be bitter against her Colossians 3:19. Verbal abuse, gaslighting, starting fights and psychological manipulation are sin. They are not love and they are not the fruit of the Spirit. We understand you shared that your son in law grew up with a verbally abusive father and a manipulative mother, and while that may explain what he learned, it does not excuse his actions before God. Each man is accountable to the Lord for how he stewards his own tongue and his own household. Everyone should be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19 and a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1. The Lord also says He hates violence Malachi 2:16. We rebuke this pattern of abusiveness and we pray that your son in law will be convicted by the Holy Spirit, repent, and turn from harshness to gentleness and self control.
Your daughter is bearing life, and that child is a gift from God. Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward Psalm 127:3. We pray for protection over her body and over the baby growing within her, that God would guard them physically, emotionally and spiritually.
We also pray for you and your son as you seek wisdom about moving out. The constant strife in a home is draining and God is not the author of confusion but of peace. We ask the Lord to give you clear direction, open doors in His perfect timing, and provide for all your needs according to His riches. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10.
We encourage you to continue to seek practical help alongside prayer. Please ensure your daughter receives prompt medical care for the severe nausea, dehydration and malnourishment, as this can quickly become dangerous for both mother and baby. We also urge you to involve trusted, godly counsel, such as a pastor or biblical counselor and mature believers who can come alongside your daughter and her husband, hold him accountable, and help establish boundaries for safety. If there is ever a threat to physical safety, please seek immediate help and a safe place. Loving your daughter well may mean helping her set firm boundaries that verbal abuse is not to be tolerated in the home, and insisting that her husband seek counseling and repentance.
Let us pray together.
Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You together and lift up this daughter and her baby to You. Lord, You know the words that have been spoken over her, the fights that have disrupted the home, the nausea and weakness in her body. We ask You to command peace over this household right now, to silence the arguing and the harsh words, and to let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard her heart and mind. Lay Your healing hand upon her, Lord, ease her nausea, restore hydration and nourishment, strengthen her body and let this baby thrive and grow strong within her.
We ask You to protect this mother and child from all harm, to encamp Your angels around them and to be their refuge. Convict our son in law, Father, show him the sin of his tongue and his manipulation, bring him to true repentance, and teach him how to love his wife with tenderness, honor and understanding. Break the generational pattern he learned and make him a new man in Christ, that he may lead his home with gentleness and godliness.
Lord, we lift up this grandmother and her son who are weary. Grant them wisdom, endurance and provision. Make a way for them to move out if it is Your will, in Your perfect timing, and provide a peaceful dwelling. Give them rest, strength and hope.
We thank You, Father, that we can come only through Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we are saved and by which we have access to Your throne. We trust You to act, to heal, to protect and to deal with this abusiveness once and for all according to Your perfect justice and mercy. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
