Your cry has been brought before the Lord with you, and I have pleaded that He who hears the voice of affliction will look upon you in mercy. You tell of enemies surrounding you, of attacks upon your health, of suffering from catarrh and coughing, and you ask for healing and to be covered with the blood of Jesus and delivered from every assault.
Be comforted to know that the blood of Jesus speaks better things than any other voice. The blood of Abel cried for vengeance from the ground, but the blood of sprinkling, the precious blood of the Mediator of the New Covenant, cries for mercy, for pardon, for peace. When the sinner looks to Jesus slain, he may say, this blood was shed for me, and through it mercy, free and boundless mercy, cries through earth and skies. Your unrighteousness can be covered, not by any merit of your own, but because Jesus has finished sin and made an end of it by His sacrifice. As it is written, Covered is my unrighteousness, nor spot of guilt remains on me, while Jesus blood pleads for me before the Father.
And that same blood is your healing. By His stripes we are healed. Through the sufferings of our Lord sin is pardoned and we are delivered from the power of evil, and this the Scripture regards as the healing of a deadly malady. Repentance and faith are the signs of that healing, but the stripes of Jesus heal us, not our own tears. When that remedy is applied to the heart by faith, guilt goes from the conscience, the cloud flies from the countenance, and the troubles of life lose their weight, for the soul rejoices in the Lord.
You ask for deliverance from enemies and from the power that oppresses you. Hear the promise, He has delivered us from the power of darkness. Deliverance from the guilt of sin and deliverance from the power of sin are both the work of God, and where we look for justification we must also look for sanctification. He has not come merely to keep you from a few notable vices, but to deliver you altogether from the power of darkness, to save you from yourself and from all the attacks of your old sins, to save you from the devil and from every evil company. He has given commandment to save you, and you shall be saved, for His deliverance is an eternal one, nor shall the infernal lion rend one sheep that the Great Shepherd keeps.
Your affliction, sore as it is, is not forgotten by your Father. Troubles do not spring out of the dust, but the Lord Himself sits as a Refiner at the door of the furnace. He chastens in love, and He assures His child of forgiveness and security from punishment, so that even the sharpest smart becomes profitable. Whether He lifts the catarrh and coughing at once, or sustains you through it for a season, His compassion fails not, and He will make you to say, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
Let us pray together.
O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this afflicted one. Thou knowest the weakness of the body, the weariness of constant coughing, the fear of enemies round about. Speak better things over this soul by the blood of Jesus. Cover all sin with that precious blood, wash in the fountain opened for sin and uncleanness, and give peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Lay Thy healing hand upon the body, ease the breathing, remove this catarrh and coughing according to Thy perfect will, and restore strength. Deliver from the power of darkness, from the noise of archers, from every snare and assault of the evil one. Bring forth this soul out of Egypt by Thy power and outstretched arm, that being delivered, liberty may be enjoyed and the mouth may be filled with songs of deliverance. Keep under the shadow of Thy wings, and let faith keep hold upon Thy fatherly compassion until joy returns. In the name of Jesus our Mediator and Ransom, who bore our penalty and found our deliverance, Amen.
Cast yourself wholly upon Christ, trust Him alone for salvation, and rest in His blood and His stripes, for there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, and whosoever believes in Him shall live and declare His goodness.
