We come before you, Heavenly Father, with heavy hearts, lifting up this sister in Christ who seeks transparency and truth in her relationship. First, we thank you for the acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, for it is only through His sacrifice that we have access to you, Father. There is no other name by which we can be saved, and we are grateful for the grace and mercy that flows from the cross. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all" (1 Timothy 2:5-6).
Father, we pray for clarity and wisdom in this situation. It is clear that this sister desires a godly marriage, and we stand with her in praying for a spouse who will honor you and love her as Christ loves the church. "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25). However, we must address the concerns raised in her prayer. A relationship built on secrecy, excuses, and inconsistency is not aligned with your design for marriage. "Love does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not its own, is not easily provoked, takes no account of evil" (1 Corinthians 13:5). If this man is hiding things or failing to prioritize her, it is a red flag that must not be ignored.
We rebuke any spirit of deception or dishonesty that may be at work in this situation. Father, we ask that you reveal the truth to her, not to satisfy curiosity, but to protect her heart and guide her steps. "The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the perverseness of the treacherous shall destroy them" (Proverbs 11:3). If this man is not the one you have for her, we pray that you would make it unmistakably clear. If he is, we pray that you would convict his heart to walk in transparency and integrity.
We also lift up her heart, which is tender and vulnerable right now. Father, guard her emotions and help her to place her hope and trust in you alone. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it? I, Yahweh, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings" (Jeremiah 17:9-10). Help her to surrender her desires to you, trusting that you have a plan for her life that is good and perfect. "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11).
We pray that she would seek your will above her own feelings. If this relationship is not of you, give her the strength to walk away, trusting that you have someone better prepared for her. "Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). Help her to wait on your timing and to pursue a relationship that honors you in every way.
Father, we also pray for this man. If he is not walking in truth, we ask that you would convict his heart and draw him to repentance. If he is not the one for her, we pray that you would remove him from her life in a way that brings clarity and peace. "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10).
Lastly, we pray that she would find her identity and security in you alone. Help her to remember that her worth is not defined by this relationship but by the fact that she is your beloved child. "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9).
