Praying For The Fear Of The Lord

We hear your heartfelt cry for a deeper reverence and awe of the Lord, and we stand with you in seeking this vital spiritual growth. The fear of the Lord is indeed the beginning of wisdom, as Scripture tells us in Proverbs 9:10: "The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." This is not a fear of punishment, but a holy trembling before the majesty, power, and holiness of God, a recognition of His sovereignty and our dependence on Him.

We must also acknowledge that the fear of the Lord is a gift from Him, cultivated through time in His Word, prayer, and obedience. Psalm 111:10 says, "The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. All those who do his work have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!" This fear leads to life, blessing, and protection, as Proverbs 19:23 declares: "The fear of Yahweh leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble."

Let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Savior. We lift up to You, asking that You would instill in their heart a deep, abiding fear of You. Lord, we know that this fear is not one of terror, but of reverence, awe, and love for Your holiness. Open their eyes to see You as You truly are, majestic, powerful, and perfect in all Your ways. Help them to grasp the weight of Your glory and the beauty of Your holiness.

Father, we ask that You would draw closer to You through Your Word. Let the Scriptures penetrate their heart and mind, revealing Your character and Your commands. Teach them to walk in obedience, not out of obligation, but out of love and reverence for You. Remove any distractions or idols that may be hindering their relationship with You, and replace them with a hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Lord, we pray that would experience Your presence in a tangible way. Let them feel the weight of Your holiness and the warmth of Your love. May they grow in wisdom and understanding as they fear You, and may this fear lead them to a life of joy, peace, and purpose. Protect them from the snares of the enemy, who seeks to distort their view of You and lead them astray.

We also ask, Father, that You would surround with godly mentors and friends who fear You and can encourage them in their walk. Let them see the beauty of a life lived in reverence to You, and may they be inspired to pursue holiness in all areas of their life.

Lord, we know that the fear of You is the foundation of a life that pleases You. We pray that would grow in this fear daily, and that it would overflow into every aspect of their life, their thoughts, words, and actions. May they be a light to those around them, reflecting Your glory and pointing others to You.

We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, particularly in the Psalms and Proverbs, where the fear of the Lord is frequently highlighted. Meditate on passages like Psalm 33:8, which says, "Let all the earth fear Yahweh. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him." Allow these truths to shape your heart and mind.

Additionally, seek out opportunities to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. Worship is a powerful way to cultivate a fear of the Lord, as it shifts our focus from ourselves to Him. As you worship, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal more of God’s character to you and to deepen your reverence for Him.

Lastly, remember that the fear of the Lord is not a one-time experience but a lifelong journey. It grows as we grow in our relationship with Him. Stay committed to pursuing Him daily, and trust that He will draw near to you as you draw near to Him (James 4:8).

When we hear “fear of the Lord,” we sometimes picture dread or cowering. But in our experience, what you’re praying for is simpler and far more life-giving: a settled, clear-eyed reverence that takes God at His word, trusts His love, and learns to hate what He hates because we love what He loves. That kind of fear doesn’t run from Him; it runs toward Him and slowly quiets our other fears.

This prayer is one God always welcomes, and He’s promised to answer it in His time. The fear of the Lord grows quietly, more like a deepening friendship than a lightning bolt. It shows up as a new thoughtfulness about choices, a hunger to know Him better, and a growing restlessness with the things that once seemed normal. Even noticing the lack of it can be the first sign He’s already at work.

One way we would invite you to water that seed is to spend unhurried time in a handful of psalms that show God plainly, like Psalm 103 or Psalm 111, and simply tell Him what you see there about who He is. You don’t need to force a feeling; just let the truth shape your inner world the way rain softens dry ground. You’ll probably find that reverence begins to root itself in ordinary moments long before you feel especially spiritual.

We are praying with you now.

Father, we thank You that You do not hide Yourself from those who seek You. Grow in our friend a healthy, liberating fear, the kind that bows the knee, not out of terror, but out of wonder at Your greatness and goodness. Quiet the other voices that crowd out awe, and let the beauty of who You are become the steadiest thing in this life. We ask it in Jesus’ name.

Be careful. Humble yourself. Pray and worship God. The fear of the Lord is all consuming. Life altering experience. Humble yourself. Pray and worship daily and keep praying regularly. Here is an awesome audio bible I use daily for an enriched bible experience.

Faithcomesbyhearing.com has an awesome audio Bible. Just look for the KJV version with music and sound effects 🙏

Ps. Most people Pray for the peace of God because life is hard and stressful enough. The fear of God and trembling in fear of God is not usually what people ask for or want. Its life threatening. Like traumatizing. But in prayer and worship he grants peace and help.

It is a blessed sign of grace already working within you when a soul begins to cry out for the fear of the Lord. The unregenerate man forgets God; he has no taste for the Judge of all the earth, nor does he regard Him. But you, in desiring this holy fear, show that the Spirit has not left you in the careless indifference of the wicked. This is the beginning of wisdom, and you do well to pray for it.

Yet let us be clear what this fear truly is. It is not the slavish dread that makes you shrink from God as a criminal from his judge, the fear that hath torment and drives you to hide among the trees of the garden. That is the work of sin, which our Lord Jesus Christ came to destroy. No, the fear commended in Scripture is a filial fear, the reverent awe of a child toward a loving Father. It is a fear that has not anything like being afraid mixed with it; it is the fear that breeds strong confidence, for the Scripture saith, “In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence, and His children shall have a place of refuge.” He who fears God trusts God; the more holy the awe, the stronger the reliance. When you fear Him as you ought, you will not dread the reproach of men nor the tumult of the world; you will say with Habakkuk, “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”

This fear is a privilege, not a bondage. It is the fear that makes you hate sin because you love the Father; it is the fear that makes you watchful against yourself, lest you grieve Him. Happy is the man that feareth always in this sense, not in a spirit of mistrust, but in a holy carefulness of life. And you may be certain of this: the very desire for such a fear is itself a gift from His hand, a token that He hath already begun a good work in you.

Cast yourself, then, wholly upon the Savior who has put away slavish fear by His own Incarnation and sacrifice. Being justified by faith, you have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Let not the remembrance of past sin, nor the dread of judgment, nor the fear of death itself come near to trouble you, for the Lord is your Redeemer, and He saith, “Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God.” The fear of God bringeth blessings, but the fear of men bringeth a snare; and the fear of death is broken by the Captain of our salvation, who Himself partook of flesh and blood that He might deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Pray on, then, but pray with confidence. He that feareth God knoweth half of God; he that believeth God knoweth all of God that he can know. Ask for the holy awe that leadeth to worship and obedience, and rest in the promise: “I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel.” The Lord of Hosts is with you; the God of Jacob is your refuge.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask for the fear of the Lord, and this is a blessed desire, for the fear of God is the nail that fixes our flesh in place. As the Psalmist cries, "Fix my flesh in Thy fear," so you too desire that your soul be riveted to Him, that no storm may shake you. The tree planted deep resists the wind; the soul anchored by holy fear withstands temptation and trial. When you fear God, you are not cowering before a tyrant but bowing before the consuming fire who is also the Father of mercies. This fear is not the terror that flees from God, but the reverence that draws near, cleaving to Him as the one who holds both punishment and comfort in His hands.

Do not imagine that fear chokes out love. The wife who reverences her husband loves him, and the one who loves fears to offend. So it is with God: where true fear dwells, love kindles and burns brightly. Those dull of heart first practice virtue through the fear of punishment, and by this they are made ready for the word of doctrine. This fear is a minister of God for your good, turning you from sin and settling your heart in peace. When you fear God, you can bear all things with cheerfulness, for you see the invisible Lord and you know that the present trial is light compared to the kingdom that cannot be moved.

Therefore, serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear, giving thanks in all things. Let this fear not make you flee from His presence but run to Him, for He is the comforter in all affliction, and His mercy saves, not your merit. Let your soul thirst for Him, cleave to Him, and fix your gaze on the things to come. Then, even if the earthly king's wrath rises, you will not fear, because you endure as seeing Him who is invisible. May this holy fear so possess you that it brings forth all good things, until at last you attain the unquenchable joy of His presence.
