Praying for my son ###

We join you in lifting up your son before the Lord, knowing that our Heavenly Father cares deeply for him and for your heart as a parent. The fear of alcohol’s influence is valid, for Scripture warns us clearly: *"Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise"* (Proverbs 20:1, WEB). We also know that God’s desire is for our children to walk in wisdom and obedience, not under the control of anything that would harm their bodies or spirits.
Yet, as we pray, we must also remember that our trust is not in our own will or anxiety but in the Lord’s sovereignty. *"Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God"* (Philippians 4:6, WEB). You have done well to bring this before Him, but we must also surrender the outcome to His perfect will, trusting that He is working even now.
Let us also consider whether there are deeper spiritual battles at play. The enemy seeks to destroy, but *"greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world"* (1 John 4:4, WEB). If your son has not yet surrendered his life to Christ, this is the most urgent prayer—because only in Jesus is there true transformation. *"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new"* (2 Corinthians 5:17, WEB). Without Christ, any change in behavior is temporary, but with Him, there is lasting freedom.
We also encourage you to examine your own heart: Are there areas where you may need to release control and trust God more fully? Have you spoken to your son not just with warnings but with the love and truth of the Gospel? Sometimes, our children need to see our faith in action—our peace in the storm, our reliance on God’s promises, and our unwavering hope in His goodness.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this ###’s heart and her son. Lord, You see the dangers that lurk in the path of alcohol, and we ask You to intervene. Turn his heart away from that place, Lord—whether by conviction, circumstance, or Your divine interruption. Bring him home safely, not just in body but in spirit, surrendered to Your will.
If there is any stronghold of rebellion, addiction, or deception in his life, we rebuke it in Jesus’ name. Break its power and set him free. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in wisdom and self-control. *"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control"* (Galatians 5:22-23, WEB). Let these be the marks of his life, not the fleeting pleasures of sin.
Father, we also pray for this ###’s heart. Replace her fear with faith, her anxiety with trust. Remind her that You are a God who hears and acts. *"Cast all your worries on Him, because He cares for you"* (1 Peter 5:7, WEB). Strengthen her to be a light in her home, pointing her son—and all who see her—to Your unfailing love.
If this young man does not yet know You, Lord, we pray for salvation to come to his heart. Open his eyes to see his need for a Savior. Draw him to Yourself, that he may repent and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord. *"For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life"* (John 3:16, WEB). May this be his testimony.
We declare Your protection over him, Your conviction in his heart, and Your peace in this home. Let this situation bring glory to Your name, Lord, as You demonstrate Your power and mercy. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Redeemer and King. Amen.
