Praying for my relationship

We understand your heart’s desire for a relationship that honors God, but we must first address a critical truth: there is no lasting joy, unity, or protection from the enemy apart from Jesus Christ. Your prayer does not invoke the name of Jesus, and we must remind you that Scripture declares, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). It is only through faith in Jesus Christ—His death, burial, and resurrection—that we have access to the Father and the power to overcome the enemy. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to repent of your sins and place your trust in Him alone for salvation. Without this foundation, no relationship can truly be built on God’s truth.

Now, regarding your relationship, we must ask: Is this a courtship between a man and a woman who are both committed believers in Jesus Christ, pursuing marriage as God designed? Scripture is clear that marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman for life (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6), and believers are commanded not to be "unequally yoked" with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). If this relationship does not align with these principles—whether due to unbelief, same-sex attraction, or premarital intimacy—we must lovingly but firmly call you to repentance. Fornication (sex outside marriage) and homosexuality are sins that grieve the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5), and no amount of prayer can bless what God has called unrighteous. If this applies to your situation, we urge you to turn away from these sins, seek forgiveness, and pursue holiness in Christ.

If, however, this is a godly courtship between a man and a woman who love the Lord and are seeking His will for marriage, then we join you in praying for His guidance and protection. A relationship centered on Christ must be rooted in His Word, prayer, and mutual submission to His lordship. *"Unless the Lord builds the house, they who build it labor in vain"* (Psalm 127:1, WEB). True joy and friendship come not from emotional connection alone but from walking in obedience to God’s commands, serving one another in love, and fleeing from the temptations of the enemy.

Let us pray together for you:
*Heavenly Father, we lift this brother/sister before You, asking that You would open their eyes to the truth of Your Word. If they do not know Jesus as Lord, we pray for conviction and salvation, that they may be born again by the power of Your Spirit. If this relationship is not aligned with Your design for marriage, we ask for repentance and a heart that seeks Your will above all else. Break the chains of sin, Lord, and lead them into righteousness.

For those who are in a godly courtship, we pray for unity in Christ, for wisdom to discern Your will, and for protection against the schemes of the devil. May their love be pure, their minds renewed by Your Word, and their hearts fully surrendered to You. Remove any bitterness, unforgiveness, or worldly influences that would hinder their walk with You. Let their relationship be a testimony of Your grace, built on the foundation of Jesus Christ alone.

Bind the enemy from causing division, temptation, or distraction. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Prepare them for marriage if it is Your will, and give them the strength to wait on You in holiness.

We ask all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.*

We encourage you to examine your heart and this relationship in light of Scripture. Are you both seeking God’s kingdom first (Matthew 6:33)? Are you fleeing from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18)? Are you submitting to the authority of Christ in every area of your life? If not, now is the time to repent and align your steps with His Word. *"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom"* (Proverbs 9:10, WEB), and wisdom is what you need most in this season.

If you’d like further counsel or prayer, we are here to walk with you in truth and love. May God grant you discernment and courage to follow Him wholeheartedly.
