Praying for my cat

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I would like to thank everyone for all your prayers my precious appreciated and so do I. I would like everyone to know my cat my precious precious cat, I had to put her down yesterday afternoon at the animal hospital. She had fluid in the lungs. The cancer spreads through her lungs. I believe that I will see you one day over the rainbow over the rainbow bridge in heaven when God calls me Home I miss so miss you so much the house is empty without her. I feel so lonely. However I can fill the comfort for the Holy Spirit. I wish I could’ve had it for one more day, she was such a beautiful beautiful cat.

We join with you in sorrow over the loss of your precious cat and we thank you for sharing this update with us. We understand how deep the bond is with a beloved pet and how empty the house can feel when that companion is gone. God created the animals and He sees the love and care you gave her, and He sees the grief you carry now.

We want to gently encourage you that the difficult decision you made at the animal hospital was an act of mercy and love. To watch a dear creature suffer with fluid in the lungs and cancer spreading is heartbreaking, and to release her from that suffering is not something you should carry guilt for. The righteous care for their animals as Proverbs 12:10 reminds us, and the Lord knows your heart was to do what was kindest for her.

We hear your longing to see her again over the rainbow bridge in heaven, and we understand that desire comes from such tender love. The Bible does not teach about a rainbow bridge, but it does teach us that God is good, loving and sovereign over all creation, and that He cares for every living thing. Psalm 36:6 says you preserve man and animal, Lord, and Matthew 10:29 tells us not even a sparrow falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge. We can entrust our beloved pets to His goodness and mercy, while holding fast to the true hope the Bible gives us for eternity.

That true hope is found only through Jesus Christ. We noticed your request spoke of God and the comfort of the Holy Spirit, which we rejoice to hear, but it did not mention Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and the promise of being called Home to heaven. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. The Holy Spirit whom you are feeling as comfort is the Comforter Jesus promised to send, and that comfort flows to us because we belong to God through faith in His Son. If you have put your trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins, you can have full assurance that when God calls you Home you will be with Him forever, where He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes as Revelation 21:4 promises.

We are so encouraged that even in loneliness you can feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit. That is exactly who He is. John 14:26 calls Him the Counselor and 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 calls God the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit as Psalm 34:18 says, and Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Your wish for one more day is so natural in grief, and God understands those tears. He invites you to pour out your heart to Him and to let His peace guard you.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is grieving. We thank you for the gift of this beautiful cat and for the years of companionship and love she gave. We ask you to surround this grieving heart with your nearness and to fill the emptiness in the house with your presence. Holy Spirit, continue to be the Comforter, bringing peace that surpasses understanding. Heal the broken heart and bind up the wounds, and remind us that you are close to the brokenhearted. Help us to rest in your goodness and to trust that you do all things well, and that even in loss you are working for good for those who love you as Romans 8:28 says. Give strength for each lonely moment, and help this dear one to know the full hope of eternal life through Jesus. Draw them ever closer to Jesus, that they may know without doubt that they will be with you forever when you call them Home. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word, to share your sorrow with trusted Christian friends, and to cherish the beautiful memories you have while letting God gently heal your heart day by day. We are praying for you and we ask the Lord to give you His peace and comfort in the days ahead.

We were so sorry to hear you had to say goodbye to your precious cat yesterday. Thank you for letting us know, and for sharing how much she meant to you. It is clear she was beautiful and deeply loved, and that the house feels very empty without her now. That loneliness and the wish for one more day are completely understandable.

Losing a beloved companion is a real loss. The bond we have with pets becomes part of daily life, routines and quiet moments at home, so when they are gone the absence is felt everywhere. Grief comes in waves and there is no single way it should look. Please give yourself grace in these early days to feel what comes, whether sadness, tears or quiet.

It meant a lot that you mentioned sensing the comfort of the Holy Spirit even in loneliness. We are praying that comfort stays near to you in the days ahead, especially in the evenings when the house is quiet.

In the next few days it can help to let one or two people who knew your cat or who know you well share in this with you, even briefly telling a favorite memory or sitting with you at home so you are not alone with the emptiness.

Father, we lift our friend to You in this grief. You see the love poured into this little cat and the ache of this empty house. Draw near with Your peace, keep Your comfort close, and gently carry them through each lonely moment. In Jesus name, amen.

Your grief is heard, and the emptiness of your house after such tender companionship is not hidden from the Lord. To love a creature that God has placed in your care and then to part with it through sickness and death brings a real sorrow, and it is right to mourn that loss. The loneliness you feel when the rooms are quiet is a true affliction.

Hear what the Lord says to His people, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. That comfort is not a distant word but a present work. You have well said that you can feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and it is He who draws near to the desponding heart. As it is written, This is my comfort in my affliction, for Thy Word hath quickened me. The Word of God does not merely tell of comfort, it quickens the soul to receive it, and the Spirit uses that Word to sustain you hour by hour.

There is another comfort for loneliness. Our Saviour Himself knew what it was to be left alone when He most needed sympathy, yet even in that darkness He could say, the Father is with Me. So with you, though the companion who greeted you is gone and the house feels empty, the Father has not left you. His presence fills the solitude that the loss has made. He sees the tears you have shed and He is near to the brokenhearted.

You speak of wishing for one more day and of hoping to see your cat over the rainbow bridge. That longing shows the depth of your love, but our sure hope as taught in Scripture is not in a rainbow bridge for our pets, but in the eternal presence of the Lord Himself for those who are in Christ. We may entrust all creatures to the goodness and mercy of God who cares for them, yet the promise of everlasting life and a home with Him is given to those who trust in Jesus. Your truest comfort, therefore, is not in imagining a reunion as you have described it, but in knowing that God Himself will never leave you and that He will fill the lonely place with His own fellowship.

Do not ask what is the cause of your grief as though it were strange. Take the remedy that has been appointed, which is more prayer. It was little prayer that lets the heart sink, and it is great prayer that lifts it up. Pour out your heart before Him who gave His Son to redeem you. Tell Him of the ache, of the missing form, of the quiet house, and ask Him to quicken you again by His Word.

May the Lord comfort your heart and establish you. May He cause this sorrow to become waters that pass away, not by forgetting the gentle gift He gave you for a season, but by remembering His unfailing love which remains when all else changes. May He keep you in His Word day by day, and may the Holy Spirit press that Word to your bosom until you can say again, This is my comfort in my affliction.

We will pray that the God of all comfort will fill your loneliness with His presence, heal your aching heart, and give you peace as you rest in Christ, in whose fellowship there is fullness of joy both now and when He calls you home.

Praying for you and understanding how you feel. I am sorry for the loss of your friend. It is through the love you had for her that you were able to set her free so that she could move on to her reward. Praying for your peace, comfort and strength. It is a blessing that you and your precious kitty were able to enrich each other’s lives. In due time, may our Lord grant your heart the willingness to love another kitty, as it is certain that there’s one who will need your love and companionship. Prayers for you in the name of Jesus Christ.
