Praying for my boyfriend who’s requesting space

Disciple of Prayer
Lord, I’m praying that my beautiful boyfriend, who I love dearly and who has requested space due to their work situation, their ex and going through financial settlement and their ### year old son not having a job or contributing to their rent anymore.
I pray some of these things resolve and he comes back to loving me again.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we lift this situation before the Lord with both compassion and biblical truth. First, we must gently but firmly address the nature of your relationship. You refer to this man as your "boyfriend," but Scripture is clear that romantic relationships between believers should be pursued with the intent of marriage, not merely companionship. The term "boyfriend" implies a relationship that lacks the commitment and covenant that God designed for His children. We encourage you to prayerfully consider whether this relationship is honoring to God and whether it is moving toward the sacred vow of marriage, as outlined in Genesis 2:24: *"Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall be one flesh."*

If this man is not a believer in Jesus Christ, we must also caution you, as 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns, *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?"* If he does not share your faith, this relationship will only lead to heartache and spiritual compromise. We urge you to seek the Lord’s will in this matter and to surrender this relationship to Him, trusting that His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

Now, let us pray for the specific burdens you’ve shared. We rebuke the enemy’s attempts to sow discord, fear, and financial strain in this man’s life. We declare that God is his Provider, his Peace, and his Strength. Father, we lift up this man’s work situation to You. You are the God who opens doors no man can shut (Revelation 3:8), and we ask that You bring clarity, favor, and stability to his career. If it is Your will, provide him with a job that honors You and meets his needs, or give him wisdom to navigate his current circumstances with faith and perseverance.

We also pray for his relationship with his ex and the financial settlement. Lord, we ask that You bring resolution to this situation in a way that aligns with Your justice and mercy. Soften hearts, remove bitterness, and grant wisdom to all involved. If there are unresolved issues or unforgiveness, we pray that You would bring conviction and healing, for Your Word says in Ephesians 4:31-32, *"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."*

Regarding his son, we pray for this young man’s future. Father, we ask that You stir in his heart a desire to work, to contribute, and to grow into the man You’ve called him to be. Provide him with opportunities, mentors, and the motivation to step into responsibility. We declare that laziness and dependency will not define his life, for Proverbs 10:4 says, *"He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth."*

As for your desire for this man to return to loving you, we must also address the reality of sin and the need for repentance. If this relationship has involved sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we must call it what it is: fornication. Scripture is clear in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20: *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* If this is the case, we urge you both to repent, seek God’s forgiveness, and commit to living in purity moving forward. True love waits, and God’s design for intimacy is within the covenant of marriage.

We pray now for your heart, dear sister. It is clear you care deeply for this man, but we ask that you surrender him fully to the Lord. Trust that God knows what is best for you and that His plans are higher than our own (Isaiah 55:8-9). If this man is not the one God has for you, we pray that He would remove him from your life so that you can walk in the freedom and purpose He has for you. If he is the one, we pray that God would draw him to repentance, maturity, and a deep love for Christ—and for you, in a way that honors Him.

Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can approach Your throne (John 14:6). We ask that You would move powerfully in this situation. Break every chain of financial stress, emotional turmoil, and relational strife. Pour out Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and fill this man with Your presence. If it is Your will, restore what has been broken, but if not, give this sister the strength to let go and trust You. We declare that no weapon formed against her or this man shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we rebuke the enemy’s lies that seek to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).

Lord, we ask that You would draw this man to Yourself. If he does not know You, we pray that he would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Soften his heart to receive Your love and truth. If he is a believer, we pray that You would convict him of any sin, including any sexual immorality, and lead him to repentance. Give him the courage to pursue holiness and to honor You in all his relationships.

For this sister, we pray that You would fill her with Your peace and assurance. Help her to trust in Your timing and Your plans. If this man is not the one You have for her, prepare her heart for the spouse You are preparing for her—a godly man who will love her as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25). If this man is the one, we pray that You would work in his heart to pursue her with honor, commitment, and a desire to build a marriage that glorifies You.

We declare that Your will be done in this situation, Lord. May Your name be glorified, and may Your children walk in the freedom and purpose You have for them. In Jesus’ holy and precious name, we pray. Amen.

We're right here with you, dear friend. We've been thinking about your situation and wanted to share a few more things on our hearts.

Firstly, we want to remind you of God's unfailing love for you both. In Lamentations 3:22-23, it's written, "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." God sees you, He cares, and He's working even in the midst of this uncertainty.

We've been praying for wisdom for your boyfriend. We ask that God would give him clarity about his work situation, his finances, and his relationship with his ex. We claim Psalm 90:12, "Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." We pray that he would seek God's wisdom in all these areas and trust in His providence.

We've also been interceding for his son. We ask that God would stir in him a desire to work, to contribute, and to grow into the responsible young man God has called him to be. We declare Proverbs 20:13 over him, "Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread."

Lastly, we want to encourage you to keep seeking God's face. In Jeremiah 29:13, God says, "You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart." Trust that He has a purpose in all of this, and He will make it clear in His perfect timing.

Let's keep standing in faith together, dear one. We claim Psalm 30:5 over this situation, "For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning." We trust that joy is coming, and we'll be here to celebrate with you when it does.

In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Be a Prayer Warrior: “Praying for others”

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this tender season. It’s clear how deeply you love your boyfriend, and we’ve lifted him before the Lord daily—asking God to bring clarity to his heart, peace to his mind, and resolution to every weight he’s carrying. We’ve prayed that the pressures of work, the lingering ties with his past, the financial strain, and the burden of his son’s situation would all be met with God’s provision and grace. Most of all, we’ve asked the Holy Spirit to draw him back to the love you share, not out of obligation, but out of a renewed desire for the relationship God has placed in both of your lives.

If you’ve seen any breakthroughs—whether in his circumstances, his heart, or his willingness to reconnect—we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report. Your testimony could be a blessing to others walking through similar valleys. If, however, the space still feels heavy and the answers haven’t yet come, please know we’re not stepping away. We’d be honored to carry this request forward in a new post, continuing to intercede until God moves in power.

Keep seeking Him, dear sister. The One who knit you together knows the longings of your heart, and He is faithful to complete the good work He’s begun. We pray comfort over you, wisdom for the days ahead, and a fresh filling of hope as you wait on the Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
