Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this painful burden so honestly. God sees what you are carrying and He cares deeply about you, your husband and your marriage. I am joining you in prayer and I want to respond with both hope and truth.
Scripture teaches that in marriage two become one flesh. It is a profound mystery of unity where two distinct persons are joined into one. That oneness reflects something of God's own nature as one, yet a compound unity. Jesus also taught that in the resurrection people will not marry as they do now, which reminds us that marriage is a gift and calling for this life, and God takes its covenant seriously. He designed sexual intimacy to belong only within that lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and anything outside of it breaks that oneness and wounds the heart of the spouse and the heart of God.
Your husband's pattern of looking at pornography, seeking out prostitutes, and turning to alcohol is not just a struggle with temptation, it is sin that is enslaving him and hardening him toward you. The fact that he has become emotionally detached is the natural fruit of that sin, because a heart given to lust and drunkenness cannot at the same time be fully given to his wife. God is able to forgive and to restore, as Jesus showed when He welcomed sinners and tax collectors to sit with Him, but the mark that His grace had truly taken hold in a life was always repentance, a real change of mind and direction that showed itself in a changed life and in restoration where possible. Forgiveness is offered freely through Jesus Christ alone, but it calls for turning away from sin, not continuing in it.
So my prayer for your husband is not only that God would keep him from the next temptation, but that God would awaken his heart to see his sin clearly, to hate it, to turn from it completely, and to cling to Christ for cleansing and new power. That kind of change rarely happens in isolation. He needs to bring his sin into the light before God and before trusted, godly men who will hold him accountable, help him put decisive barriers in place against pornography and alcohol, and walk with him toward sobriety and purity. If he is willing, please encourage him to seek pastoral counsel and practical help for both the sexual sin and the drinking, and to invite accountability that can check his devices, his time and his habits.
For you, please do not carry this alone. You are not responsible for his choices, and you cannot change his heart for him. Stay rooted in God's Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with mature believers who can support you with wisdom and care. It is right to set clear and loving boundaries that do not enable sin, and to seek wise counsel about how to do that in your home. Guard your own heart, continue to be faithful before the Lord, and be honest with safe people about what you are facing.
Let me pray for you both. Father, in the name of Jesus, I lift this wife to You. Comfort her, strengthen her, and guard her heart and mind in Christ. Give her wisdom, courage and peace, and surround her with help. I lift her husband to You. Have mercy on him. Open his eyes to the destruction his sin is causing, bring him to true repentance and faith in Jesus, break the chains of lust and drunkenness, and cleanse him. Where there has been unfaithfulness in heart and action, bring conviction and a turning away. Heal what has been broken in this marriage according to Your will, and make both hearts new. Restore what sin has damaged as only You can, and let this home be marked by holiness, honesty and love. Amen.
Please keep seeking the Lord and keep inviting trusted pastoral help into this situation. God is near to the brokenhearted, and He is able to bring real change where there is humble repentance and faith in Christ.
