We hear your heart and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord, for we know He has called you to this work as a teacher and He will equip you for all He has assigned you to do.
We understand the weight you carry, teaching in your second language while battling exhaustion, insomnia and sleep deprivation, and then replaying your words at home and feeling that they sounded broken or unnatural. It is discouraging when you desire to do your best and to be respected at work, yet your body and mind feel hindered. We want to encourage you that God sees your diligence and your careful heart, and He does not define you by moments of weakness or imperfect speech. Our competence does not come from ourselves alone, for it is written, Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to account anything as from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 2 Corinthians 3:5. And when we feel weak, His grace is sufficient, for His power is made perfect in weakness, 2 Corinthians 12:9.
The Lord also understands the struggle with speech. Moses said to the Lord, Oh, Lord, I am not eloquent, but the Lord answered him, Who has made man's mouth? Isn't it I, Yahweh? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall speak, Exodus 4:10-12. In the same way, God is with your mouth as you teach. He can give you clarity, natural expression, and wisdom beyond your own effort. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. We believe God delights to give you that wisdom for your classroom and for your relationships at work.
We also lift up your need for rest and healing from insomnia. Anxiety and sleeplessness can wear down both body and spirit, but God promises peace and rest to His children. We are told, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. And it is also written, It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones, Psalm 127:2. And again, Fear not, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, Isaiah 41:10.
We encourage you to commit your work to the Lord each day, Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed, Proverbs 16:3, and to do your work heartily as unto Him, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23. This takes the pressure off needing to be perfect in the eyes of others and places your teaching in His hands. Practically, we encourage you to continue to be diligent in preparation when you are rested, to establish a steady evening rhythm that honors the body's need for sleep, to bring your anxieties to Him in prayer before you sleep rather than replaying the day with self-condemnation, and to speak kindly to yourself as God speaks kindly to you.
We now pray together for you.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up Your child who You have called to teach. We thank You for the gift and calling You have placed upon their life and for the diligence with which they serve. Lord, we ask for Your favor and Your protection over them each day. We ask that You touch their body and mind and heal them from insomnia and sleep deprivation. Grant them deep, peaceful, restorative sleep, and quiet every anxious thought that keeps them awake, that Your peace which surpasses all understanding would guard their heart and mind. We ask that You supernaturally grant wisdom, clarity of thought, and grace upon their tongue, that their words would be natural, clear, and edifying, and that even when they are tired, Your Spirit would help them speak well. Help them to grow in the English language and to have confidence, not in themselves alone but in You who equips them. Remove any label of incompetence and remind them that their sufficiency is from You. We pray for respectful, genuine relationships at work, that coworkers and students would see Your love and excellence through them, and that You would be glorified in their classroom. Strengthen them to be the best at what they do for Your glory, not by striving, but by Your power working within them. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, amen.
