Prayers

Thank you for sharing your request for prayer for safety and health. We have prayed for you and we continue to hold you before the Lord.

It is a comfort to know that God cares about both your soul and your body. In one of his letters, the apostle John wrote to a dear friend with a sincere desire that he would be in good health and do well in every way, just as his soul was doing well. That was not presented as an unconditional guarantee that believers will never be sick, but as a loving wish, and it shows the heart of God toward you. There is also a real connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. What goes on in our hearts and minds, our peace, our trust, our attitudes, can affect our physical well being, and God wants your inner life to prosper in Christ.

The Scriptures show Jesus healing the sick and the hurting, and Matthew connects that ministry to the prophecy in Isaiah that the Messiah would bear our infirmities and carry our sicknesses. When Jesus took our place on the cross, He bore our sins and also took our sorrows and sicknesses upon Himself. He showed His power over disease, over the forces of nature, and over evil spirits. He sometimes healed instantly with a word or a touch, and at other times healing came gradually. All healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through the natural processes He built into our bodies, and whether it comes through medicine, rest, and care or through direct answer to prayer.

God is still able to heal today, and He invites us to bring our needs to Him. The book of James encourages those who are sick to call for the elders to pray, anointing with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer offered in faith. We believe in bringing every need for health and safety to Jesus in simple, trusting prayer, without any need for show or frenzy.

At the same time, we do not always understand why some are healed quickly and others continue to struggle, even after much prayer. The Bible makes clear that not being healed is not a sign that you have less faith or that there is hidden sin in your life. Even the apostle Paul prayed repeatedly for his own thorn in the flesh, and God answered with grace and strength to endure. We cannot equate physical health with spiritual maturity, and we can trust that God's ways are higher than ours, even when we do not understand. Some of the most faithful followers of Jesus have walked through long seasons of poor health, and the Lord has been near to them through it all.

The Lord is also interested in the practical ways we steward our bodies and our safety. Scripture shows that many of the laws given to Israel had a health purpose behind them, teaching cleanliness, careful eating, and wise habits to protect the body from disease. In the New Testament we have freedom, but we are still called to use wisdom, to care for our bodies, to avoid what harms us, and to be clean and careful for the sake of health and for the protection of others. Doing what we can in these ordinary ways is part of honoring God with our bodies.

So we pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear one to You. We ask for Your hand of protection over them wherever they go, that You would keep them safe from harm and give them peace. We ask for health and strength according to Your will. Touch their body, restore what is weak, calm what is anxious, and give wisdom to any who care for them. Heal in whatever way You choose, whether instantly or gradually, and let Your healing be seen in body, mind, and spirit. Help their soul to prosper as they walk close to You, resting in Your love and Your promises. Give them confidence that You hear, that You care, and that You are present in every need. In Jesus name, amen.
