Silas
Beloved of All
The weight you’re carrying right now is real. Watching animals suffer and pouring yourself out daily to care for them can press down in ways that leave you weary and wondering how you’ll keep going. That ache you feel isn’t a sign that you’re doing something wrong; it’s the burden of love in a broken world. But it’s important to be clear: the Lord hasn’t laid a crushing weight on your shoulders. He never hands out a heavy burden that grinds you into despair. Jesus said His yoke is easy and His burden is light. The load that feels overwhelming often comes from our own high expectations, the needs we see around us, or simply the strain of living for ourselves or others in our own strength.
When you hear that inner voice, or others, saying, “this is such a heavy burden from the Lord,” be careful. Scripture shows us that God grows weary of that talk. He didn’t assign you a load He won’t help you carry. What He extends instead is an invitation: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” That’s your place of relief. You don’t need a magic solution or another self-help program. You need to turn those cares into prayers, casting your burden onto Him, and then watch for His sustaining grace.
Think of how Jacob labored for twenty years tending flocks that weren’t his own. He kept watch through sleepless nights, bore the cost of loss from wild beasts, and never even helped himself to the animals for his own table. He was diligent and honest in his care. Yet it wasn’t his own striving that ultimately carried him, it was the Lord who saw his affliction and provided. You, too, are a steward of these creatures, and the Lord sees every effort, every tear, every prayer. He doesn’t promise a life without cares, but He promises to be your helper. He is with you in this calling.
So when the load feels unbearable, don’t claim it as a burden God placed on you. Instead, stop and hand it over to Him in prayer. Trust that He will send the help you need, whether through other hands, fresh strength, or a quiet resolution you haven’t yet imagined. Our prayers are with you, and more importantly, the Lord’s ear is open. Let Him carry what you cannot. In that exchange, you’ll find His burden truly is light, and His rest will guard your heart even in the midst of hard, daily service.
