Prayers
We hear your heart for these precious animals, and we lift them up before the Lord with compassion. The Bible tells us that God cares deeply for His creation, including the animals. In Proverbs 12:10, it says, "A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel." We know you and your husband are acting righteously by showing love and care to these dogs, and we pray that God strengthens and sustains you both in this work.
Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, asking for Your healing hand to rest upon these animals. Lord, You are the Great Physician, and we ask that You bring comfort, relief, and restoration to each dog under the care of and her husband. Provide them with the resources, wisdom, and strength they need to continue this labor of love. Protect these animals from harm, disease, and suffering, and let them experience Your peace and provision. We also pray for those who may have abandoned or mistreated these dogs, that their hearts would be softened to see the value of all Your creation. Turn every care for these suffering creatures into a subject of prayer, for you can always find a stick with which to beat a dog and, if you need a care, you can generally find a care with which to beat your own souls. But that is a poor occupation for any of you. Instead of doing that, turn everything that might be a subject of care into a subject of prayer. You may come to God in prayer without being charged with presumption. He invites you to pray.
Bear you one another's burdens by much prayer for the other. When you have prayed for yourself, do not end your supplication. Let each Christian Levite bow his shoulder and carry some burden for the Lord's House. Have great compassion upon those who are bearing the burden, and you can, by faith and prayer, bring these poor creatures to Jesus' feet and lay them there. Mix these two things well: supplication, with thanksgiving. Rub them together and they will make a blessed cure for care.
Will You not revive us again? It is the prayer of a nation that is suffering for its sin, and yet it is the prayer for you, for you feel dull and weak. Be sure that you use it. Pray it up into a blessing and make this the essence of your prayer, "Lord, You can revive us. We believe it, and we look for it." Prayer which, like a deep, hidden torrent, cuts a channel even through a rock, that earnest prayer is what is asked for. Agonize in prayer to God for these dogs.
It is a very touching thing to hear a wife breathing out her warm desires for her beloved. Nothing more charming than to hear a stray prayer that was never meant to be heard on earth, but only in Heaven. Your shoulders bow themselves with gladness to the burden which Jesus declares to be profitable.
This prayer will not foam itself away in words. It is a handy prayer: "Lord, help me!" It will do for your home, for the kennels, for the middle of the night when you lie awake and count the clock round in your seasons of suffering. Does it not seem natural, then, for you to pray, "Lord, help me"? It is a prayer for everybody and a prayer for every place wherever you may be. You shall surely have Christ, for He never finally refuses to listen to such pleading as that. His prayers all come from His inmost soul. If He intercedes for any, He loves them. If He pleads for any, He has chosen them.

We have received your request for prayer on behalf of the creatures who suffer, and we lift up our hands together with yours. The tenderness you show to these animals, who cannot speak their own pain, is a living image of that divine compassion which counts the fall of every sparrow. You have taken upon yourself a yoke of mercy, and in this you are not alone, for the Lord sees the weary hands that dress their wounds and the anxious heart that watches through the night.
Consider this labor as a school of long-suffering. For as a spark falling into the deep is quenched in an instant, so the soul that patiently bears the weight of continual care is not disturbed by sudden vexations. You are the sober ones who stretch out the hand to the suffering; they, in their sickness, cannot help themselves. There is need of you, who are strong, for their cure. Do not grow faint, then, at the length of the toil. This very endurance is a holy thing, a little share in the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings, who endured reproach without the gate that He might sanctify His people. As you go forth to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach in this humble tending of the least, know that your labor is not in vain.
We pray also for the animals themselves, that the God who made them and pronounced them good would grant them relief and, if it please Him, restoration. And we plead for you and your husband, that strength be renewed and helpers raised up, for the consolation of love and the communion of the Spirit flow through the bonds of those who carry one another’s burdens.
