Prayers to remove my stammering tongue

We have heard your request and we join with you in prayer to the Lord for your healing.

We know how heavy this burden has felt since birth, to desire to speak fluently and to feel held back by your tongue. Be assured that God hears you even now. He does not measure your prayer by fluency of speech but by the faith of your heart. As the Scripture teaches, even when the tongue falters, the understanding and the heart can still cry out to Him, and He who became man for us and took our weakness upon Himself knows your need with perfect compassion.

We pray for you now in the name of Jesus Christ, our great Healer. Heavenly Father, we lift up this dear one to You. You formed the tongue and You give speech. You showed Your power when You helped Moses who was slow of speech, and You still give gifts of healing by Your Spirit according to Your will. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would touch this tongue, loosen what is bound, and grant clear and fluent speech. Lay Your healing hand upon him and grant what is best for his good and for Your glory. If it be Your will to heal at once, we ask for that mercy. If You lead through a slower path, give patience and strength each day, little by little, and let Your grace be evident in the process.

Remember also that your tongue is given to lay hold of the knees of God in prayer, and God hears the groaning of the heart even when words come with difficulty. Do not be discouraged from praying because of stammering. Continue to come to Him, to confess your trust in Christ, to thank Him, and to ask Him for help. Keep your mouth from discouragement and keep it exercised in prayer, thanksgiving, and praise, for in that way the soul is strengthened and the grace of God draws near.

We will continue to remember you in prayer, asking the Lord to grant you healing, confidence, and peace, and to use your voice, however He restores it, for His glory. May the Lord grant you comfort, may He perfect His strength in your weakness, and may you know that His love for you in Christ is sure. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Thank you for sharing this burden so openly. To live with a stammer from birth and to long to speak fluently is a real affliction, and God hears your prayer in Jesus name.

Scripture shows us that Jesus has power over sickness and infirmity. Matthew points us to Isaiah where it is written, surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, and the word there can be understood as infirmities and sicknesses. Matthew applies that prophecy to the physical healings Jesus did, when he touched the leper, the servant of the centurion, the mother in law of Peter, and many others who were brought to him in the evening. He bore our sicknesses as well as our sins, and when we remember his body broken for us, we remember that his suffering was for our whole need, body and spirit.

We also learn from Scripture that we cannot presume that God will remove every infirmity in this life in the way we ask. Paul prayed three times concerning the thorn in his flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet him, and the Lord did not remove it but answered in another way. There is much about healing that we do not understand. Why some are healed instantly, why some are healed gradually as in the case of the blind man who at first saw men as trees walking, why some are healed through a word, a touch, or simply through the natural processes God has built into our bodies, we do not know. Any true healing is divine, whether it comes in a moment or through a slow process, because God is the author of nature and its processes.

I want you to know that I believe God is able to heal and that healing is for today. Jesus still has authority in the physical realm to calm the storm and to heal the body, and in the spiritual realm to set free. Yet it would be wrong to tell you that if healing does not come in the way you hope, it must be because of sin in your life or a lack of faith. That is not scriptural and it is like the friends of Job who added to his pain. Good people suffer with sicknesses, and God does not measure his love for you by whether your speech becomes fluent in this moment.

Do not be drawn to those who would whip you into a frenzy or make a show of healing for personal gain. Much of that is not of God. Come quietly to Jesus as you are, with simple trust. He used Moses who said he was slow of speech and tongue, and he can use your voice even now while you wait on him.

So I will pray for you now, asking for the Lord's mercy and power according to his wise and loving will.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we bring this dear one before you. You know this tongue and this struggle from birth. You know the desire to speak clearly and freely. Lord, you bore our infirmities and our sicknesses, and we ask that you would touch and heal this stammer. Whether by an instant touch, by a gradual work, or by your hand through natural means, we ask for your healing grace. If it is your will to remove this affliction now, do it for your glory. If you allow it to remain for a season, give peace, give confidence, and let your strength be made perfect in weakness. Take away any shame or fear, and let this voice be used to speak your praise and your truth with boldness. We trust your goodness and your wisdom, and we ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.

Keep seeking him, keep asking, and keep trusting his love for you. He hears, and he will answer according to what is best.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf for the healing of your stammering tongue. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer concerning your struggle as a stammerer from birth and your desire to speak fluently. We have continued to bring you before the Lord, asking Him who made the mouth to touch you and to cause your tongue to speak plainly, remembering the promise in Isaiah 32:4 that the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly and the truth in Exodus 4:11 that it is the Lord who makes mans mouth.

We pray in Jesus Name for the Lord to loose your tongue and to grant you clear and fluent speech for His glory.
