Prayers to make my girlfriend ### stay home today

We hear your heart’s longing for closeness and commitment, and we want to approach this with both truth and love. First, let us address some concerns biblically. The relationship you describe as "girlfriend" should be viewed through the lens of God’s design for marriage. Scripture is clear that sex outside of marriage is fornication (1 Corinthians 6:18-20), and relationships should be pursued with the goal of holy matrimony between a man and a woman, both believers in Christ (2 Corinthians 6:14). If this relationship is not moving toward marriage, it may be wise to prayerfully reconsider its foundation.

You mention wanting your girlfriend to stay home and love you unconditionally, which reveals a desire for security and devotion. However, true love, God’s love, is not something we manipulate or demand. It is freely given and rooted in Christ (1 John 4:19). Praying for her to "stay home" or "love you more" without addressing the spiritual health of the relationship may not align with God’s will. Instead, we should pray for His wisdom, for both of you to grow in faith, and for your relationship to honor Him.

You also express a desire to have a baby. Children are a blessing from the Lord (Psalm 127:3), but they are best raised within the covenant of marriage (Malachi 2:15). If this relationship is not yet marriage, we encourage you to seek God’s timing and His design for family.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach You (John 14:6). Lord, we lift up this relationship to You. We ask for Your wisdom and discernment for both individuals involved. Father, if this relationship is not aligned with Your will, reveal that truth and give the strength to walk in obedience. If it is Your will for them to be together, let it be in the holy covenant of marriage, with both seeking You first (Matthew 6:33).

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of control or manipulation in this situation. Help this brother to love as Christ loves the church, sacrificially, patiently, and with purity (Ephesians 5:25). Father, soften hearts to Your truth. If there is sin in this relationship, convict and lead to repentance. Let Your Holy Spirit guide every decision, every word, and every action.

We pray for this sister, that she would seek You above all else. Give her a heart that desires to honor You in her choices, including her relationships. If she is not in a place to commit to marriage, give her the courage to step back until she is ready to pursue a godly union.

Father, we also pray for the desire for a child. We ask that You would fulfill this longing in Your perfect timing and in Your perfect way. Let any children born into this relationship be raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4).

Lord, we ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, who died and rose again so that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.

We encourage you to seek God’s will above your own desires. Surrender this relationship to Him, and trust that He knows what is best. If you have not yet committed your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life (Romans 10:9-10). Only then can you experience the fullness of His love and guidance. If you’d like to take that step, we’d be honored to pray with you further.

We appreciate you sharing this honestly with us. We can hear how strong your feelings are for her and how much you want to feel secure and loved, and to build a future together.

One thing we have learned is that love grows best where there is freedom. When we try to make someone stay home or make them feel a certain way, even out of deep longing, it can put pressure on the relationship. Healthy love respects that each person has their own thoughts, choices, and boundaries, and that a clear yes and a clear no both matter. Guarding each other's freedom actually helps trust grow.

A helpful next step today could be to pause and have an open, calm conversation instead of trying to hold her close. You might let her know you missed her and share what you are hoping for long term, and then really listen to what she wants and needs today, even if her plans are different from yours. Giving space for her to choose freely shows respect and gives you both a clearer picture of where you are together.

We are carrying you both in prayer.

Father, we lift this young man to You and we lift his girlfriend to You as well. Bring calm to his heart where he feels anxious, give him wisdom and self-control in how he loves, and help him respect her dignity and freedom. Lead them both toward what is healthy and toward Your good direction for their lives. Give them honesty with each other and peace as they seek You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your longing for steadfast love and for family points to something deep and true, for the heart was made to love and to be loved, yet the way in which we seek that love matters greatly before God.

To ask that another person be made to stay home or be made to love unconditionally is not the nature of love at all. As we have often considered, the relationship of marriage is not one of birth or of compulsion, but of choice, and it is sustained and made delightful by mutual love. Without love freely given, wedded life must be a purgatory, but where love is freely chosen and nurtured, there is mutual delight and complacency which is the very crown of marriage. Love that is coerced ceases to be love. True love, whether between man and woman or between the soul and Christ, must be given willingly, not compelled.

You also speak of having a baby together. Children are a holy gift, and God has appointed that the union of one man and one woman in the lifelong covenant of marriage is the place for that union and for the welcoming of children. To seek intimacy or children outside of that covenant is to step outside the way God has ordained for our good and His glory. We cannot ask God to bless what runs against His own holy design, for He loves us too much to affirm us in a path that would harm our souls.

There is a better way to bring your desires before the Lord. Man is prone to lean upon an arm of flesh and to trust in what he can see and hold, yet vain is that confidence. We are called instead to trust in the Lord and do good, to cast ourselves at Jehovah's feet as He has revealed Himself in Christ Jesus. You have a need not first for a change in another person's will, but for the everlasting love of God to be poured into your own heart. He has loved His people with an everlasting love, and because He loved us while we were yet in sin, He gave His Son to wash us from our sins in His own blood. That love is strong as death, and it alone can teach us how to love rightly.

So we will not pray that God would compel your girlfriend to stay or to feel what she does not freely feel, nor that He would grant a child apart from holy marriage. Instead we pray that God would do a deeper work in you both.

We pray that you both may come to know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, for there is salvation in no other, and that trusting Him you may find the unconditional love you seek first in Him. We pray that He would comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work, that He would give you purity, wisdom and self control, and that He would lead you to honor Him with your bodies and your choices. If it be His will that you should be joined together, we pray that it may be through the solemn and joyful covenant of marriage, entered into deliberately and in the fear of God, where love may grow and be cemented and strengthened. If not, we pray He would give you grace to walk in holiness and peace.

Seek the Lord while He may be found, and seek godly counsel in your local church concerning this relationship. Learn to love as Christ loves, which repels selfishness and sin and moves the soul to serve and to give, not to grasp and to hold. Drink deeply of His wondrous love to you, and you will be better fitted to love another rightly.

May the Lord grant you to trust Him fully, to love Him above all, and to order your life according to His Word.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing what is on your heart. Your desire to be loved deeply and to have a family is understandable, and God sees these longings.

We want to pray with you in a way that honors God and His word. Scripture teaches that love should abound more and more in knowledge and discernment, so that we may approve what is excellent and be sincere and without offense before God and before others. That kind of love does not simply follow feeling without reason, and it does not try to control another person or make them stay where we want them to stay. True love is not weak or blind, but thoughtful and discerning, seeking what is truly good for the other person.

Scripture also teaches that genuine love is a labor. It endures trials and shows itself by honoring the other person, by preferring one another in honor, and by being willing to be the first to give rather than demanding to be loved on our own terms. Love that is warm and faithful grows when we seek the good of the other before our own wishes.

God also teaches that holiness shapes how we live in relationships. Marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman is honorable, and it preserves the holiness that comes through faith in Jesus Christ. Sexual intimacy, living together as husband and wife, and the gift of children belong within that covenant. Marriage itself is not a hindrance, but when it is entered with the right purpose and with moderation it can help lead us toward the kingdom and toward all good things. Outside of marriage, God calls us to remain pure and chaste.

Because of this we cannot ask God to make your girlfriend stay home against her will, or to force unconditional love, or to bless having a child outside of marriage. Instead we can pray for what is truly good and excellent according to His will.

So we pray for you and for her that you both would know salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and that God would draw you to trust Him fully and walk with Him. We pray that He would give you wisdom and clear discernment about your relationship, that any love between you would grow in truth, purity and respect, and that you would learn to honor one another and not seek to control. If it is His will for you to be married, we pray He would lead you step by step toward that covenant in a holy way, with wise counsel, patience and purity, and that the gift of children would be sought within marriage in His timing. We pray that God would free you from demanding or anxious love and teach you to love with patience, kindness and self control, trusting Him with the future.

We encourage you to bring this to a trusted pastor, to stay rooted in Scripture and in the life of the church, and to pursue holiness while you seek guidance for what is next. God is faithful to work in both of your hearts for your good and for His glory.
