Thank you for entrusting these five unspoken requests to prayer. Even though you have not shared the details, your Father knows what you need before you ask Him, and He invites you to bring every burden to Him.

It is a comfort to know that God works through prayer and that He hears the prayers of His people. The most useful lives for His glory are lives given to prayer and to His Word. Prayer is not a way to inform God of something He does not know, and it is not a way to persuade Him to do our will. Jesus gave a model for prayer that shows us the true pattern. It begins with relationship. When you have come to God through faith in Jesus Christ, you can truly say Our Father, and that relationship opens the way for effective prayer. If that relationship is not yet settled, the first prayer God desires is, God be merciful to me, a sinner.

The heart of prayer is not that my will be done on earth, but that His will be done. Prayer begins with God and His purposes, which He makes known to our hearts, and we then express back to Him what He has laid upon us. For that reason the wisest prayer we can pray over each of these five matters is, Lord, work out Your perfect will in this situation. Have Your way. Do what You know is best. We often ask and do not receive because we ask to fulfill our own desires, but when we seek His kingdom and His righteousness, we can trust His answer.

You do not need many words or a long prayer for God to hear you. The prayers recorded in Scripture are often very short. What matters is a sincere heart that trusts Him. Like David, we often want help immediately and cry, make haste, O God, to help me, and it is hard to wait. Yet God calls us to trust Him rather than our own strength or any human help, for the work of righteousness brings peace, and the effect of a right relationship with God is peace in the heart even while we wait.

Scripture says the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much, and that when two or three agree on earth concerning anything, God hears. We are agreeing with you now for these five requests, asking the Lord to meet each need according to His wisdom and love, to give you guidance to know the way you should walk, to bring comfort and assurance by His Spirit as you pray, and to build your confidence that He has heard.

We pray that you will be able to end your prayers with praise, with quiet confidence that God has heard and will answer according to what is best. May He show His will clearly in each of these five areas, provide what you truly need, draw you closer to Himself, and give you His peace as you trust Him.
