Your four unspoken requests have been brought before the Lord, and though they are unspoken to us they are fully known to Him who searches the heart. There is comfort in this, that we have to do with the God of peace, who hears not only the words of our lips but the sighs and desires which we cannot utter.
We would remind you that He is the God of peace in every way. He created peace originally when He pronounced His creation very good, He restores peace where sin has broken it, He preserves peace when it is made, and He shall perfect and consummate it at last. He is the God of peace because He justifies, and thereby implants peace in the soul, through the blood of the everlasting covenant. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, and by Him also we have access into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
If you have this peace with God, you may then know the second form of it, a consequent peace in the little kingdom within, that peace of God which passes all understanding. O taste and see that the peace of God is good. It is solid and abiding, founded on eternal truth and guaranteed by the God of holiness, while any peace that requires us to forget God is but a writing upon the sand, for there is no peace, saith our God, to the wicked.
So we spread your four burdens before the throne, and we pray that the God of peace Himself would meet you there.
Great God of Peace, who didst bring again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, hear these unspoken cries. Thou knowest each need, each name, each sorrow and each hope contained in them. Grant peace with Thyself first of all, through faith in the precious blood of Christ, and then grant peace within, according to Thy wisdom and love. Where there is sin to be forgiven, forgive. Where there is anxiety, give that perfect peace which keeps heart and mind. Where there is waiting, remind Thy child that Thou hast already spoken in Thy holiness and in Thy Word, and help faith to appropriate what Thou hast promised, and to rejoice that Thou hast spoken. Do only that which is well pleasing in Thy sight, and make Thy child holy as Thou art holy, for Thou art the God of peace and holiness together. Preserve and perfect Thy work, for where Thou beginnest Thou dost not ask us to finish, but Thou completest Thine own work.
We ask that Thou wouldst give Thy Holy Spirit to those who ask Thee, and that in all things Thy will may be done, and Thy glory set above the heavens. May these four requests, as far as they are according to Thy good pleasure, be granted, and where they are not, give submission and a deeper trust in Him who loved us and gave Himself for us, and who now dwells in peace before the throne. Keep us trusting and not fearing, looking wholly to the Son of God pouring out His life, that sins may be gone in a moment and peace may reign.
We leave you in the hands of the God of peace, who loved peace, preached peace, lived in peace, died in peace, and now dwells in peace, and who will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him. Amen.
