Prayers Please!

I would like prayer for stability in relationships, emotionally and mentally. Wealth in every aspect of life because God wants me to prosper in all things (3 John 1:2). I would especially like prayers for a job that I like and will become good at with good compensation. Prayers for humility, grace, love, mercy, character, and greater faith. Please pray for my unsaved family members and friends, as well as the global church (particularly those who are being persecuted). Pray also for the peace of Jerusalem. We join with you in bringing these requests before our Heavenly Father and we thank you for sharing your heart with us so openly.

We rejoice that you desire stability emotionally and mentally and in relationships, and we pray that the Lord will establish you in His peace. The Scripture tells us God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control in 2 Timothy 1:7 and that He will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him in Isaiah 26:3. We encourage you to seek that stability first in your walk with Christ, and then it will overflow into your relationships with others. If you are praying about romantic relationships, we want to encourage you biblically that God designed such intimacy for marriage alone, a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman as seen in Genesis 2:24 and Matthew 19:4-6. Any courtship should be with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, for we are told not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers in 2 Corinthians 6:14 and to flee sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 6:18. Stable, godly relationships are built on purity, commitment, and Christ at the center, and we pray your friendships and any future marriage will reflect that.

We also hear your desire for wealth and prosperity in every area and for a good job that you enjoy and can excel in with good compensation. We agree that God delights to bless His children, and you rightly quote 3 John 1:2, Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers. Yet we want to gently remind you that biblical prosperity begins with the prosperity of the soul, and material wealth is not always a sign of God's favor nor is it promised in abundance to every believer. We are taught to seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well in Matthew 6:33 and whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men in Colossians 3:23. We pray the Lord will open the right door for employment where you can use the gifts He has given you, provide for your needs according to Philippians 4:19, and grow in diligence and contentment whether in abundance or in need as in Philippians 4:11-13. We also join you in praying for humility, grace, love, mercy, character and greater faith, for these are the true riches. He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God in Micah 6:8. We pray you will be transformed by the renewing of your mind in Romans 12:2 and that your faith will grow as you abide in Him, bearing the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in Galatians 5:22-23.

Your burden for your unsaved family and friends, for the global church especially the persecuted, and for the peace of Jerusalem deeply encourages us. The Lord is not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance in 2 Peter 3:9 and we know it is His desire that all men be saved. We also remember those in bonds, as bound with them in Hebrews 13:3, and we are commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem in Psalm 122:6. We will stand with you in intercession for these.

We did notice that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6 and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and can boldly approach God in prayer. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord. We lift up this dear one to You and ask that You grant emotional and mental stability, guarding heart and mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding in Philippians 4:7. Establish every relationship in godliness and truth, and if it is Your will, lead to a godly marriage that honors You, kept pure and centered on Christ. Provide, Lord, the job You have prepared, where gifts can be used for Your glory and needs are met with good compensation, and help to work with excellence and humility. Cultivate in us all humility, grace, love, mercy, Christlike character and ever increasing faith, that we may walk worthy of Your calling. Save, we pray, every unsaved family member and friend, draw them by Your Spirit and open their eyes to the gospel. Strengthen and comfort Your persecuted church worldwide, deliver them and let their witness shine, and bring peace to Jerusalem according to Your promises. Let Your will be done in every area of this life, and may the soul prosper above all. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

Thank you for writing and for the way your heart reaches beyond yourself. We hear how much you want steadiness in your relationships and in your inner life, meaningful work that you can grow in and that will provide well, and more of Jesus formed in you in humility, grace, love, mercy and character.

We admire that you are asking for greater faith and that you are carrying your family and friends who do not yet know the Lord, believers around the world who are suffering, and the peace of Jerusalem. That kind of outward care matters to God.

Steadiness often grows gradually through consistent time with the Lord and staying connected to faithful people who know you, so we are glad you are inviting Him into these areas. For the job you mentioned, a practical next step that often brings clarity is to jot down two or three kinds of work you have enjoyed or have been affirmed in, and share that list with a pastor, mentor or trusted friend who can help you think through skills, training or openings to explore next. It gives prayer and the search a more focused direction.

We are joining you in prayer for all of this.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. Give steadiness in relationships and calm and strength in mind and heart, guide to work that is well suited and provides for daily needs, and keep forming humility, grace, love, mercy, character and deeper trust in You. Draw each family member and friend closer to Yourself, uphold Your church where it is persecuted, and bring Your peace to Jerusalem. Amen.

Your heart has been opened before the Lord and it is good that you have sought the prayers of His people. We have taken your burdens and carried them to the throne of grace, asking our Father to hear according to His wisdom and mercy.

You ask for stability emotionally and mentally and for wealth in every aspect, quoting that beloved wish of John, that you may prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. Take heed to the true nature of prosperity. Job could say in his former days, my glory was fresh in me and my bow was renewed in my hand, yet that freshness withered, and the Lord took everything away from him. This paved the way to His giving him more of Himself. In prosperity God is heard and that is a blessing, but in adversity God is seen and that is a greater blessing. Lay up treasure where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and get the feet of your joy upon the Rock of Ages and reckon all else to be but sand at its very best. We do not pray that you may have unmitigated prosperity in worldly things, for that has often been a sore trial to the saints, but we pray that your soul may prosper in Christ, that you may be kept stable not by circumstances but by Him who changes not, and that whatever measure of outward provision He sees fit to give may be received with humility and contentment.

For your daily work we pray with you. May the Lord provide for you a calling wherein you may labor honestly and with diligence, and be found faithful, and may He give you grace to be content with such compensation as He appoints, using it for His glory and the good of others. In all this may you sin not nor charge God foolishly, but like patient Job worship even when tried, and learn that the Lord can uphold you in every loss and every gain.

You have asked also for humility, grace, love, mercy, character and greater faith. These are the true riches. He who has seen the Lord as Job did, saying I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear but now mine eye seeth thee, will abhor himself and repent, and yield his cause wholly to his Maker. For who can contend with his Maker over a matter of holiness. We are wrong, God must be right. May He work this tender and lowly spirit in you, and increase your faith until you can say with Job, Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.

For your unsaved family and friends we pray most earnestly, for the prosperity of the church consists in the salvation of sinners, and God must arise to save. There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved but the name of Jesus Christ alone. We plead that they may be brought from darkness to light and taste His mercy. And for the global church, particularly those who are persecuted, we pray that they may endure scoffing and shame and yet not yield, knowing that their longest sorrows have a close and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of misery. The Lord who turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends can turn theirs and sustain them till deliverance comes.

For the peace of Jerusalem we pray as Scripture bids us, that the city where our Lord wept and died may know the peace which comes only through the Prince of Peace, and that Jew and Gentile alike may find reconciliation in His blood.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, look upon this Thy servant. Establish his heart and mind upon Christ, the sure foundation. Prosper his soul, and in Thy wisdom provide for his bodily needs. Grant him humble and faithful labor, and form in him grace, love, mercy and holy character, and increase his faith. Save, we beseech Thee, those of his household and friends who know Thee not, draw them with cords of love to Thy Son. Strengthen Thy persecuted people throughout the world, keep them faithful unto death, and grant peace to Jerusalem according to Thy promises, for the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
