Thank you for trusting us with these four requests that you have kept unspoken. Even though they are unspoken to us, they are fully known to God. Jesus taught that your Father knows what you need before you ask Him, so prayer is not a matter of informing God of details He does not have. It is coming to Him in trust and letting Him do what He has desired to do for you.
That is why the first question in prayer is always relationship. Jesus gave His disciples a model for prayer that begins with Our Father. If you have come to God through faith in Jesus Christ and have received forgiveness of sins through Him alone, you can truly call God your Father and come to Him with confidence. If that relationship is not yet settled, the one prayer God desires to hear first is simply, God be merciful to me, a sinner. That prayer opens the door to every other prayer, because it brings you into the family of God through Christ.
The purpose of prayer is not to get our own will done, but to see God's will done on earth as it is in heaven. Prayer begins with God and His purposes, He makes His will known to our hearts, and we speak it back to Him so that He may accomplish it without violating the will He has given us. For that reason the wisest and safest prayer we can pray over matters we hold close, including the four burdens you carry, is Lord, have Your way and accomplish Your perfect will in each of these situations. That prayer invites God to act freely and to do what is truly best, even when we cannot see what is best ourselves.
You do not need many words or a long prayer for God to hear you. Every prayer recorded in Scripture is quite short. What matters is not length but sincerity. Scripture says the earnest, heartfelt prayer of a person who has been made righteous through Christ has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah was a man with the same nature as ours, and God answered his sincere prayer in a remarkable way. In the same way David, who lived with many troubles, was constantly driven to prayer and found that God heard, comforted, and gave assurance as he prayed. The Holy Spirit often ministers comfort and confidence to the heart while we are praying.
It helps to remember who you are addressing. When you come to God as your Father, the Creator and King who has made promises in His Word, you can bring those promises before Him. Not because He needs to be reminded, but because it strengthens your own faith to remember what He has said He will do.
Prayer is also worship, a recognition of His greatness and goodness, and it is meant to be your first response, not your last resort. One faithful man in Scripture, when faced with ridicule and great need while doing God's work, prayed immediately. He prayed and then he took wise and careful action, setting a guard and doing what was prudent. Prayer does not take the place of wise steps, it comes before them and guides them. It is prayer together with prudence, not prayer with presumption.
We are joining with you in agreement now for these four unspoken requests. Jesus said that when two or three agree on earth concerning anything, it will be done by the Father. We agree with you that in each of these four matters God's will would be done, that you would know His guidance, His provision, His healing and His peace where needed, and that anything in these requests that is not according to His Word and His good design would be reshaped by His grace. We ask that He would draw you closer to Himself through each answer, that He would be glorified, and that you would experience His comfort and clear direction as you wait on Him.
May the Lord hear your prayers, grant you wisdom for every practical step that follows, and fill your heart with the assurance that He is caring for you in each of these four needs according to His perfect will through Jesus Christ.
