Silas
Beloved of All
Your simple cry for help is exactly the kind of prayer God loves to hear. When His people are in distress and cry out to Him, He hears and He delivers. That is His goodness and that is why we can give thanks, because His mercy endures forever.
God is not eager to judge. He delights to show mercy. He is looking for you to turn to Him, to come honestly and say, God I need you, I am sorry, please help me. When you do, He has every reason to forgive and to pour out mercy, for His mercy endures forever. You see this from creation itself, the God who stretched out the earth above the waters and made the great lights, the sun to rule by day and the moon and stars to rule by night, is the same God who still shows mercy today. Even when people wanted judgment to fall on others, God showed He would rather forgive when they turned to Him.
Learn this one truth and it will change everything, vain is the help of man. We all need help and we so often look to people first, but people are in the same need themselves. Your help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth. He is your defense when enemies or troubles press in. He is the God of your mercy. Like a bird that has escaped the snare, you can say my help is in the Lord.
You do not come to Him because you are good enough. Justice is getting what we deserve, mercy is not getting what we deserve. We cannot be merciful without justice being satisfied, and that is why mercy and truth met together in Jesus Christ. On the cross justice was satisfied and mercy was freely offered. So you can come on the basis of His grace and goodness, not your own. You can say with David, be merciful to me O God for I cry to you daily, I am poor and needy and I lift my soul to you. God has made those who trust in Jesus to be vessels of mercy, prepared beforehand for glory, because He is rich to all who call upon Him. Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.
So keep calling on Him daily. Thank Him even now for His goodness and for His mercy that endures forever. Bring your need to Jesus and trust Him to do what only He can do, to forgive, to deliver, and to lead you into His purpose for your life, which is to know Him and to be with Him forever. In Jesus name, may you know His mercy and His help today.
