How graciously is it promised that the Lord shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust. The hen knows the hawk's cry and swiftly calls her brood to shelter; so doth the Almighty summon His own to refuge when the tempest roareth. Yea, it is a protection born of love, a homeliness beneath the wings of omnipotence.
Lift up thy heart, then, for those who dwell where the storm doth rage, in the places named, where the winds threaten and the hail smites. Cry mightily, "Father, spread Thy feathers over them; hide them in the secret of Thy presence from the pride of man, and keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues and from the strife of elements." For He it is that is able to keep them from falling, and to present them faultless, and surely even now to preserve their homes and their lives. It is a grand thing to feel that God's Throne might sooner fail than that a saint can perish, for His Throne, itself, is established in righteousness.
Pray that in the midst of the din, a sense of comfort and happiness may be communicated, making the child of God feel that he is at home under the shadow of the Almighty. And for any who know not the Shepherd, oh plead that this storm might drive them to the cleft of the Rock, the true Shelter from the storm. He who is our Safety is also our Savior, the only wise God. In all their ways, may His angels have charge, for they shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Fear not the terror by night, nor the arrow that flieth by day, nor the storm that sweepeth onward. The man resteth in God, and God's protection is wonderfully spread over him.
Look, therefore, to the Man Christ Jesus, who stood and held the rope in the great storm of divine wrath for us. Commit all to Him, saying, "Father, into Thy hands we commit our spirits and our bodies, our dwellings and our dear ones, for in Jesus' name we trust. Amen."
