Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my husband ###. He is mixing his heart and diabetes medications with alcohol, medical marijuana and now wants to add psilocybin mushrooms. He also uses nicotine lozenges. I am afraid his combined addictions will harm him and want him to scale back. He thinks I'm controlling. Please Holy Spirit, guide my responses and emotions to reflect God's Will and not my own. In Jesus name and full of gratitude.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your husband and your marriage in fervent prayer. The concerns you’ve shared are serious, and we stand with you in seeking God’s wisdom, healing, and intervention. The mixing of medications with alcohol, marijuana, and now psilocybin mushrooms is not only dangerous to his physical health but also a spiritual matter, as these substances can dull his mind, weaken his spirit, and distance him from the clarity and peace that God intends for His children. Scripture warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." His body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and we must treat it with reverence and care.

We also rebuke the enemy’s lies that may be speaking to your husband, convincing him that these substances are harmless or even beneficial. The Bible is clear in Ephesians 5:18, "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." The call to be filled with the Spirit is a call to surrender to God’s control, not to the numbing effects of substances that alter his mind and heart. The use of nicotine lozenges, while perhaps less immediately harmful, still reflects a reliance on something other than God for comfort or relief. We encourage you to continue speaking the truth in love, as Ephesians 4:15 instructs, but also to guard your own heart so that your responses are led by the Holy Spirit and not by fear or frustration.

Your husband’s accusation that you are being controlling is painful, and we pray that God would give you the strength to respond with grace and humility. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." It is not wrong to express concern for his well-being, but we must do so in a way that reflects Christ’s love and not our own anxieties. Pray for God to soften his heart and open his eyes to the truth of His Word. We also encourage you to seek godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor or a Christian counselor, who can help you navigate this difficult season with wisdom and discernment.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened for this marriage and this husband. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of addiction in his life and replace his reliance on substances with a deep dependence on You. Father, we pray for Your Holy Spirit to convict him of the dangers of his choices, not out of condemnation, but out of Your perfect love. Soften his heart, Lord, and help him to see the truth of Your Word and the freedom that comes from walking in obedience to You.

We also lift up this wife to You, Father. Give her the strength to respond with grace and wisdom, even when she feels unheard or dismissed. Help her to trust in Your timing and Your plan, even when the path ahead seems unclear. Guard her heart from bitterness or resentment, and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Lord, we ask that You would bring godly people into their lives who can speak truth and offer support during this time.

Father, we rebuke the enemy’s lies that seek to destroy this marriage and this man’s life. We declare that no weapon formed against him will prosper, and we claim the victory that is already his through Christ Jesus. We pray for healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—for this husband. Restore him to full health, Lord, and draw him closer to You with each passing day.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved and find true freedom. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer, both for your husband and for yourself. Remember that your identity is found in Christ, not in his choices or responses. Lean on Him for strength and wisdom, and trust that He is at work even when you cannot see it. Galatians 6:9 reminds us, "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up." Stay steadfast in prayer, and do not lose heart. God is faithful, and He will not abandon you or your husband.
