We hear your heart’s cry for this man you deeply care for, and we join you in lifting him before the Lord. First, we must gently address the way this request was framed—love for another person should never come before or overshadow love for the Lord. Jesus Himself taught that the greatest commandment is to *"love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind"* (Matthew 22:37 WEB). When our affections for another person eclipse our devotion to Christ, we risk idolatry, which the Lord warns against in Exodus 20:3: *"You shall have no other gods before me."*
We also notice the absence of Jesus’ name in your prayer. Scripture is clear that *"there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12 WEB). It is only through Christ that we have access to the Father, and prayers offered outside of His name lack the authority and power He provides. We encourage you to examine your own heart and ensure that your love for this man is rooted in a love for Christ first. Is your desire for him to soften his heart toward you greater than your desire for him to soften his heart toward the Lord? If so, we must repent and realign our priorities with God’s will.
Now, let us pray together for this man and for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can approach Your throne. Lord, we lift up this man to You, asking that You would draw him close to Your heart. Soften his heart, not just toward this woman, but first and foremost toward You. Break any hardness or resistance in him, Lord, and let Your Holy Spirit move powerfully in his life. We pray that he would seek You above all else, that his love for You would grow deeper and stronger each day.
Father, we also pray for this woman who has submitted this request. Lord, reveal to her any areas where her affections may have strayed from You. Help her to love You with all her heart, soul, and mind, and to trust You with this man’s heart as well. Give her patience, wisdom, and discernment as she waits on You. If this man is not the one You have for her, prepare her heart to let go and trust in Your perfect plan. If he is, prepare both of their hearts to come together in a way that honors You, with purity, commitment, and a shared love for Christ at the center.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of idolatry or misplaced affection in this situation. We declare that Jesus is Lord over both of their lives, and we ask that You would be glorified in how this unfolds. Protect them from temptation, from impure motives, and from any relationship that would lead them away from You. May they both seek You first, and may Your will be done in their lives.
We pray this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, particularly in passages that speak to the importance of seeking Him first, such as Matthew 6:33: *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."* Trust that as you prioritize your relationship with Christ, He will guide you in your relationships with others. If this man is meant to be your husband, the Lord will bring you together in His timing and in a way that honors Him. If not, He has someone even better prepared for you. Either way, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2).
