We are truly sorry to hear about the illness of your little dog. The compassion of Jesus Christ extends to all of His creation, and it is clear that you have a heart for your pet. It is wonderful that you are calling the vet in the morning, as they may be able to provide more insight and a medical opinion to help what is happening.
In times like these, we can find a similar situation in scripture.
Matthew 15 21-28 WEB
21 Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely demonized!” 23 But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away; for she cries after us.” 24 But he answered, “I wasn’t sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me.” 26 But he answered, “It is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.
First, we would like to address that Jesus was not insulting the woman by calling her a dog. The word for dog is different than the word for a typical dog, such as your pet dog. The word for dog in Greek is kuon, and the word Jesus used was kunarion, meaning a small or pet dog. This is also why Jesus responded the way he did to the Syrophoenician woman. Her faith was so great that she did not mind being referred to as a small dog. She knew that even small dogs receive crumbs from the master's table. She believed that Jesus could heal her daughter with even just a small crumb of his power. She asked for help in faith, believing.
We can take encouragement from this story, knowing that God cares about all of His creatures, great and small, and even a small crumb of His power can make a difference.
Let us pray together for your little dog.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this precious little dog to You. We ask, Lord, that You would extend Your healing hand and grant healing to this beloved pet. Just as You cared for the daughter of the Syrophoenician woman, we know that You care for this little dog as well. We pray that You would guide the veterinarian's hands and give them wisdom to provide the best care possible. We also pray for the owner, that You would grant them peace and comfort during this time.
We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior.
Amen
Prayer is a powerful tool, and we encourage you to continue praying for your little dog. We pray that God will honor your faith and grant healing to your pet.
