Your request concerning your dear pup and its enlarged heart has been brought before the Lord with tender sympathy, and we join our prayers with yours for mercy.
We hear in your words an aching heart, and we would speak to you that word which the Lord has given to His people, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. It is the Lord who bids His servants comfort one another, and we pray that the bright winged comfort of His presence may come near to you in this trial. Affliction, though it be over a creature you love, is not unknown to Him who notes even the sparrow's fall, and who has shewn great tenderness in the provisions of His mercy.
We are reminded that all healing virtue is in Jesus Christ. As it is written, the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. There is an abundance of healing power in our Lord, and we may bring every sickness and sorrow to Him. He can tell you of God's mercy not in words only, but with a sweet sense of mercy shed abroad in your heart. All God's mercy to sinners is gratis, He never sells, He always gives, and from that same fountain of free mercy we ask Him to look upon you and upon this young creature committed to your care.
We pray that Jesus, our mighty healer, would in His sovereign goodness lay His healing hand upon your pup if it be His will, that the coughing may cease and strength may return, and that you may be spared the sorrow of having to put it down so young. We pray also for wisdom for you and for those who tend to it, that you may be guided to do what is most merciful and right before the Lord. And whether He restores or whether He calls the creature from you, we pray that He would quicken you by His Word, for this is our comfort in affliction, that His Word hath quickened us. May the Spirit of God teach you to say in this trial, This is my comfort in my affliction.
We commend you to Him who delighteth in mercy and who has no pleasure in the sorrow of His creatures, trusting that whether in sparing or in taking away, He will do that which is most for His glory and for your good. May He comfort your heart and establish you in every good word and work, and make you to feel that tender mercy which pleads with the sinner and sustains the saint.
We bear you upon our hearts before the throne of grace, asking the Great Messenger of the Covenant, even Christ Himself, to draw near and speak words of comfort to your heart, and to keep you in perfect peace as you trust in Him. Amen.
