Forgiveness Before Sundown
Letting go of anger by sundown brings peace to your heart and health to your body.
Safe Shelter
God’s tender care shields you from every harm and fills your life with comfort and peace.
Marriage
Marriage is a divine bond that demands lifelong devotion and respect from both partners.
We join you in lifting up your parents before the Lord, and we share your sorrow in hearing and seeing them argue and treat one another with hatefulness. It is deeply painful to watch those we love and honor wound one another with words and resentment, and we thank you for bringing them before God in prayer and for desiring healing for their marriage.

God ordained marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and He desires that it reflect His own faithful and forgiving love. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate Mark 10:9. His design is not for bitterness and anger to dwell in the home, but for love to bind husband and wife together in unity. Love is patient and is kind, love does not behave itself inappropriately, is not provoked, takes no account of evil 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. When resentment builds up, it gives place to the enemy and harms the very oneness God created.

Scripture calls us to put away that which destroys relationships. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32. We also hear the call to bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do Colossians 3:13, and above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection Colossians 3:14. Hatefulness and resentment are not from the Lord and must be confessed and forsaken, replaced by compassion, humility and forgiveness.

We encourage you as their child to continue to honor your father and your mother Exodus 20:12 even in this painful season, by not taking sides in a way that dishonors either one, but by being a faithful intercessor for them, speaking with gentleness and truth when the Lord gives opportunity, and encouraging them to seek godly counsel and to humble themselves before God and before each other. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1.

We pray together for them now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and Savior, and we lift up these dear parents to Your throne of grace. Lord, You see the arguing, the hurt, the anger and resentment that has built up between them, and You know the pain it causes their child who loves them. We ask that You heal their marriage and protect their covenant. Take away all bitterness, wrath and malice from their hearts and fill them with Your compassion, tenderness and forgiveness. Soften their hearts toward one another, help them to be kind and tender hearted, forgiving each other as You in Christ forgave us. Teach them to love as You love, to be patient and kind, not provoked, keeping no record of wrongs. Restore communication that is gentle and edifying, and guard their mouths from hateful words. Pour Your peace into their home, the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, which will guard their hearts and their thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. Draw each of them closer to You first, that they may be reconciled to one another in Your love, and may their marriage bring honor to You and be a testimony of Your redeeming power. Comfort also their child who is hurting while witnessing this strife, give peace and hope and strength to continue in prayer without growing weary. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.

We hear how painful this has been to live with day after day, hearing the arguing and seeing the hurt between your parents. Loving them both while they are speaking hatefully to each other can leave you feeling helpless and drained, and we are grateful you brought this to the Lord and to us.

Resentment and anger often build slowly, and compassion does not usually return all at once either. It grows as people make small choices to soften toward each other again, even when feelings are still raw. Your prayer for compassion instead of hate is exactly the kind of healing only God can work in hearts over time.

While you cannot carry the weight of fixing their relationship, you can care for your own heart in the middle of it. When the arguing starts it is okay to quietly step to another room or take a brief walk if you can, and later let a trusted pastor, counselor or another safe adult know how heavy this feels for you so you are not holding it alone. Continuing to pray simply and honestly as you already are is a faithful way to love them.

Father, we lift this family to You. Please bring peace into this home, soften resentment and anger between these parents and fill them with compassion and patience for one another. Guard their marriage and guide them toward healing in Your will, and comfort their child who is hurting to watch this. Give wisdom and rest to each of them. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is a grievous trial to stand by and hear those who gave you life speak with resentment and anger toward one another, and the Lord sees your sorrow in it. There are few wounds more piercing than unkindness in the home, and Scripture tells us that He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds.

We join you in bringing your parents before the throne of grace, that the great Physician would put forth His healing power upon their marriage. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation, not only in the fruit but in the very leaves of the tree of life, which are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing, and these healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. We pray that the Sun of Righteousness would rise upon that home with healing in His wings, and that pardon and healing, which the Lord places in happy conjunction, would be poured out there.

We ask the Lord to take away the bitterness and resentment which have been building up, to forgive what must be forgiven, and to soften what has grown hard. Healing must come from His own hand, for a real saving work is the work of God alone, and He is pitiful and full of compassion to those in misery. May He fill your father and mother with compassion for one another instead of hate, that tender and Christlike pity which reflects His own mercy to us. As you have received compassion undeserved and free, so may that same compassion be formed in them, and may they be taught again to bear with one another in love.

We pray that the Lord would protect this covenant of marriage as He ordained it, restore peace to their words and kindness to their hearts, and make their home a place of healing rather than strife. May He give you grace to continue in prayer, to speak with gentleness, and to trust Him who is able to heal though we have backslidden far, for He says, Return, return.

We lift this prayer with you in the name of Jesus, who alone is our healing and our peace. Amen.
