My Mom has a major stroke in May and made it through brain surgery to remove the clot. However, they were not able to remove it fast enough before it left her paralyzed on her left side. She was in the hospital for a month then in two different nursing homes. At the nursing homes, she suffered through neglect and abuse. She was over medicated multiple occasions, one that sent her to the ER for chronic internal bleeding. She was dropped multiple times while being transferred, which hurt her paralyzed leg and arm. The therapist sprained her ankle severely by hyperextending her ankle because he got mad because she didn’t want to work with him because he hurt her. Her ankle was left severely bruised and swollen, setting back weeks in her therapy. His motto was no pain no gain. Then she was left alone in the bathroom and she can’t even sit up by herself much less be left alone in the bathroom, and she had a severe fall because of it that she cut her hand wide open, tearing most the skin off the top, hurt her shoulder and back, and cracked the back of her head on the hard floor. She had 72 x-rays and CT scan and only by the grace of God did she not break something. She had a severe concussion for multiple weeks afterward, making her even more ill. Then at the other nursing home, she wasn’t cleaned properly; she is incontinent and was left in dirty depends multiple nights for over 12 hours, which caused her to get a urinary tract infection and bladder infection. When they changed her, they would leave the dirty depends in her trash by her bed and threw their dirty gloves behind and under her bed. They didn’t change the sheets unless I did it, and they didn’t bathe her at all. They left her completely uncovered with the window open multiple nights, and the outside temperature was freezing. This caused her to get even more sick and caused her paralyzed side to regress back to almost complete paralysis.
We finally got her out of these places this week to what seemed like a good adult family home. She was happy for a few days until the night staff came on with some very mean old ladies who didn’t listen or want to hear that she had severe pain on her left side and were hurting her and yelling at her when she pleaded with them to stop. They were hurting her. We confronted the owner of the home about the situation, and she spoke to the women, and instead of listening, they quit. So now the home doesn’t have enough staff to support my Mom’s needs. We now have to find another place for her to stay by Monday or she will have to stay in the hospital until a place can be found.
These past five months have been hell. Please pray my Mom can get into a very nice place that she feels safe and can have some independence also. We have a place in mind called the Sequoia, where one of her good friends is staying and she loves it. Please pray that she can get into this place so she finally can be somewhere that cares for her well and she feels safe. Thank you and God bless!
