Disciple of Prayer
My sister is now 39 years old and has been diagnosed with schizophrenia since she was 16 years old. She had so many dreams before this happened. My mother died last year and now I have become her sole provider. I am studying in another country and I do not work. There are no resources for her care in the country she lives in. She is in a catatonic state and does not speak. She is in need of ECT treatment, but it is most likely she will never get it since it is not available there. The medications she is on do not work. It has been so stressful trying to pay for an elderly home for her and all the things that she needs. I have been anxious because of the position I have been placed in. If I do not help, she will be on the streets. I have been praying that God give her some purpose in life. He must have a plan for her life, and it cannot be this. Help me pray that her situation changes and she comes out of this state.

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your sister and the immense burden you carry. The weight of this responsibility is not lost on us, and we stand with you in fervent prayer, trusting in the God who sees, knows, and holds every detail of this painful situation. Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Your sister’s suffering and your own distress have not gone unnoticed by our Heavenly Father, and we cling to His promise that He works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

First, we must address the foundation of our prayers. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is by His blood alone that we are saved. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." If you or your sister have not placed your faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Without Jesus, our prayers are powerless, and our hope is in vain. If you are unsure about your relationship with Christ, we implore you to repent of your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and surrender your life to Him. This is the first and most critical step in finding true peace and purpose, both for yourself and your sister.

Now, we lift your sister before the Lord, asking for His divine intervention in her life. Father, we pray for a miraculous breakthrough in her mental health. You are the Great Physician, the One who healed the lame, the blind, and the demon-possessed. We ask that You would touch her mind and body, breaking the chains of schizophrenia that have bound her for so long. Lord, we know that nothing is impossible for You (Luke 1:37), and we ask that You would restore her to full health, that she may speak, think clearly, and live a life that reflects Your glory. If it is Your will, we pray for the provision of ECT treatment or any other medical intervention that would bring healing. Open doors where there seem to be none, and provide the resources needed for her care.

We also pray for you, dear one, as you carry this heavy load. The anxiety and stress you feel are understandable, but we encourage you to cast all your cares upon the Lord, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). You are not alone in this battle, and God has not abandoned you. We pray that He would provide for your every need—financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Father, we ask that You would open doors for employment or financial provision so that you can continue to care for your sister without being overwhelmed. Give wisdom to those who can help, and soften the hearts of people who may be in a position to assist. Lord, we also pray for peace to guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7), knowing that He is your strength in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

We must also address the reality of your sister’s current state with honesty and compassion. While we long for her physical and mental healing, we must also trust in God’s sovereign plan for her life. It is possible that her purpose may not look like the dreams she once had, but that does not mean her life lacks meaning. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and even in her silence, she may be a testimony to His grace and power. We pray that God would reveal His purpose for her, whether that be through healing, through her endurance in suffering, or through the way her life impacts others. Remember, God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). We must trust that He is working, even when we cannot see it.

We rebuke the spirit of despair and hopelessness that seeks to take root in your heart. The enemy would love for you to believe that this situation is beyond God’s reach, but we declare that Jesus has already overcome the world (John 16:33). We stand on the truth that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). We also rebuke any lies that suggest your sister’s life has no value. Every life is precious in God’s sight, and He has a plan for her, even now. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."

Finally, we pray for the body of Christ to rise up and be the hands and feet of Jesus in this situation. Lord, we ask that You would stir the hearts of believers to come alongside this family, offering practical help, financial support, and prayer. May Your church be a refuge and a source of strength for them. We also pray for wisdom for you as you navigate this difficult season. Seek godly counsel, lean on the support of fellow believers, and do not carry this burden alone. Galatians 6:2 instructs us to "bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith and trust in Your goodness. We ask that You would move mightily in this situation, bringing healing, provision, and peace. Comfort this family in their distress, and let them feel Your presence in tangible ways. We declare that Your will be done in this sister’s life, and we trust that You are working all things together for good. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to fix their eyes on You, the Author and Finisher of their faith (Hebrews 12:2). In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.

Be a Prayer Warrior: “Praying for others”

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for your precious sister during this incredibly difficult season. Our hearts have been heavy as we’ve lifted her name before the Lord, asking Him to move in ways only He can—bringing healing, comfort, and breakthrough where it seems impossible. We’ve prayed for wisdom for you as you carry the weight of being her sole provider from afar, for strength to endure the financial and emotional strain, and for peace to guard your heart as you trust God in the midst of uncertainty.

We’ve specifically asked the Lord to intervene in her condition, that He would either bring the resources needed for ECT treatment or work a miracle beyond medical explanation. We’ve prayed for doors to open where there seem to be none—for provision, for compassionate care, and for moments of clarity or connection that remind you both of His presence. We’ve also asked God to reveal His purpose for her life, even in this season, and to use her story for His glory in ways we may not yet understand.

If God has answered any of these prayers in ways big or small, we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report from you. If the burden still feels heavy and the answers are not yet clear, please know we are still here to stand with you. You do not carry this alone. We will continue to lift your sister, your family, and your own heart before the Father, trusting that He hears us and is at work even when we cannot see it.

May the Lord bless you with His peace that surpasses understanding, with moments of rest in His promises, and with the assurance that He is near to the brokenhearted. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus.
