Home Again
Returning to God brings overwhelming joy that calls you to come home now.
The Chain of Influences
Consistent good influences shape a life and demand we build them daily for ourselves and others.
A Broad Gospel
God’s mercy offers safety to all through Christ, and it calls you to enter now with your whole family.
We join with you in prayer and thank you for your servant heart in staying with your son and his family to help care for your young granddaughter, this is a beautiful picture of generational love and service and we ask God to bless you for it.

We understand how hurtful abrupt or sharp comments can feel, especially when you are giving of yourself to help in the home. We pray first for you, that the Lord will guard your heart from discouragement or bitterness and fill you with His peace and kindness even when words sting.

The Word reminds us, Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32, and Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection Colossians 3:12-14. We also remember A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1.

We pray for your daughter in law as you have asked, that the Lord would soften and transform her heart to walk more fully in love, patience and kindness. We do not know the pressures she may be carrying as a young mother, and we ask God to give her grace, rest, and a renewed spirit. We pray that love would abound more and more between you both, for love covers a multitude of sins 1 Peter 4:8 and Love is patient and is kind 1 Corinthians 13:4.

We encourage you to continue to respond with gentleness and humility, seeking peace in the home as much as it depends on you, as we are told If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. It can help to pray before responding, to overlook a slight when you can, and when needed to speak privately and lovingly with her about how her words affect you, always honoring your son and his marriage and the leadership of their home. Your quiet example of Christlike love and service to your granddaughter will be a powerful testimony.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, thanking You for this grandmother and her willingness to serve her family. We ask You to pour out Your love into her heart and give her a continued kind, tender and forgiving spirit. Guard her from hurt and give her wisdom to answer with gentleness and grace. We lift up her daughter in law to You, Lord, touch her heart and transform it with Your love, fill her with kindness, patience and compassion, and help her to speak with grace and love. Bring unity, peace and joy into this home, let forgiveness and understanding flow freely, and let this granddaughter see Your love lived out daily. Help them to bear with one another in love and to honor You in all their words and actions. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

We appreciate you reaching out and letting us pray with you. Leaving your own routine to live with your son and family and help care for your young granddaughter is a real sacrifice, and it shows your love for them. It also makes those abrupt comments from your daughter in law feel even heavier, because you want to be a help and not a burden.

Living closely together, especially with a little one in the house, can bring out tiredness and short words that do not always reflect a person's heart. Often what sounds sharp is more about stress and overload than about you personally, though it still hurts to receive.

One small practice that often helps in close quarters is to give a brief pause when a sharp comment lands, and then respond gently rather than right away. Later, in a calm moment when the baby is resting, you might share briefly how you felt in your own words, and ask how you can best support her. And continuing to pray quietly for her, as you are, keeps your own heart soft while you are there.

Father, we thank You for this grandmother's loving service and we ask You to give her grace, rest and encouragement each day. We ask You to bring peace and kindness into this home, to soften and strengthen each heart, and to help them speak to one another with patience and love. Guide them to deeper understanding and unity. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We have heard your burden and we join you in prayer before the throne of grace, where our Lord delights not only in the essence of our prayers but in the very words which our weakness brings to Him.

It is a holy service you render in that home, giving of yourself to help with your dear granddaughter, and the Lord sees both your love and the sting of those abrupt words which grieve you. He who has loved us with an everlasting love and has drawn us with marvelous loving kindness is able to soften the heart and to write His own law of love upon it. We will pray that He will work in your daughter in law a gentle and quiet spirit, that He will pour His love into her heart and transform what is sharp into what is tender and kind.

We pray also for you, that you may be kept in great peace as one who loves His law, and that you may find strength to answer with grace, to abide in Christ in all your daily duties, and to show love by joying in Him even when the way is trying. Love is thoughtful and patient, and it often bears long before it sees the fruit, but the Lord who fetched us from afar by love and rested in His love after His labor is able to make love abound in that household.

May the Lord bless that home, may He let His kindness be felt in every heart within it, and may He give you joy in your granddaughter and in your service to your son and his family. We ask that He will make His love to be the bond of that house, and that you may both give and receive that love which comes from Him alone.

Father, look upon this dear one who serves her family in love. Comfort her heart when words wound, and give her grace to respond with meekness and wisdom. Show Your marvelous loving kindness to her daughter in law, we beseech You, and create in her a new heart that delights to speak with kindness. Let Your love rule in that home, and let all who dwell there know the peace which belongs to those who love Your law. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ we ask it, Amen.
