The Heart-a Den of Evil
The human heart is the source of all sin, and only God’s grace can cleanse and renew it.
Our Lord’s Humanity a Sweet Source of Comfort
Christ’s humanity means He fully understands and shares your struggles, loneliness, and sorrows, offering real comfort.
Untrodden Ways
Trust God in new trials, for He guides, sustains, and turns fear into faith.
We hear your heart crying out for him and we join with you in standing in the gap for him before the Lord. We are moved by your desire to lay down your life in love and to let God use your heart to comfort his, and we pray with you that God will steady and still your courtship in His peace even when the news feels like too much.

We thank God that you have called upon Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we find comfort and salvation. For there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and through Him we can approach the throne of grace with confidence Hebrews 4:16.

We rejoice that you speak of courtship, and we encourage you to continue to pursue this relationship as a courtship with the goal of godly marriage between a man and a woman as God designed. Marriage is honorable among all and the bed undefiled Hebrews 13:4, and we encourage you both to keep your courtship pure and holy, abstaining from fornication which is sex before or outside of marriage, and to seek to honor Christ in all affection and devotion. Remember to be equally yoked as believers, for what fellowship has righteousness with iniquity or what communion has light with darkness 2 Corinthians 6:14. As you love one another, love with the sacrificial love Christ modeled, for greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends John 15:13.

We know the weight you feel when the hurt is unseen and the burden feels heavy. God sees what you cannot fully know and He is bigger than all human flaws and all overwhelming news. We cast all our worries on Him, because He cares for us 1 Peter 5:7. He is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose Romans 8:28.

We pray together for you both now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear sister and the man she loves, her amor para siempre, to You in the name of Jesus. You know the hurt and the challenge he is facing even when she does not know the details, and we ask that You touch him with Your comfort and uplift his heart. Still their courtship in Your peace and guard their hearts and minds. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and their thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. When the news feels too much, remind them that You will supply every need according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19 and that when our hearts are overwhelmed we can cry to You who will lead us to the rock that is higher than we are Psalm 61:2. Teach them to bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ Galatians 6:2, and to love each other with a pure and selfless love that looks toward a marriage that honors You. Hold them fast, Lord, keep them from stumbling, and let nothing separate them from Your love. Fear not, for You are with them, be not dismayed, for You are their God, You will strengthen them, You will help them, You will uphold them with the right hand of Your righteousness Isaiah 41:10. We lay this courtship and both of their lives before You and ask that Your will be done and that You be glorified in their love and in their waiting. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to keep standing in the gap with prayer and to keep trusting that God is at work in spite of human weakness. Come to Him daily, let Him be your refuge, and continue to seek Him together for wisdom for your future marriage. He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it 1 Thessalonians 5:24.

We hear the love and tenderness in your prayer for him, and the way you want to stand with him and for him in this courtship season. Wanting to be there for his heart while the news feels overwhelming is a heavy and caring place to be.

It is understandable to feel stretched thin when you love someone deeply and cannot take the hurt away for him. Your willingness to lay down your own comfort to intercede for him is a beautiful reflection of Christlike love, and God sees both of your human limitations with compassion. He is bigger than what either of you can carry alone.

One gentle step that often helps when everything feels like too much is to create a little breathing room from the constant news together. You might agree on a set time to catch up on what you need to know, then turn it off for the rest of the evening to pray, rest, or simply be present with each other and with the Lord. It can keep your hearts more settled as you keep bringing your concerns to Him.

Jesus, we lift this brother to You and ask for Your quiet comfort to surround him wherever he is hurting. Uplift his heart and give him rest. Strengthen our sister as she loves him faithfully, give them both wisdom and peace in their courtship, and help them to keep holding on to You together. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer though it comes in broken words and sighs has not fallen to the ground unheard. It is the comfort of feeble saints to know that the Lord hears not only well formed petitions but groanings and breathings at the mercy seat. Jesus saith He will not break the bruised reed nor quench the smoking flax, and though you feel yourself to be as the one and the other, useless and worthless in your own eyes, He has a care for such as you. Comfort, comfort, despair not, for He will not cast away the least sigh that seeks His face.

You speak of hurt and challenge and news that feels too much to bear, and of standing in the gap for one whom your heart loves. Know this for your comfort, that temptation and trial are still under the control of the faithful Creator who will not suffer you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape that you may be able to bear it. Possibly the Lord sees it best for you to bear your troubles a little longer, for you are getting good out of them, and even the waves of the sea become the servants of the saints when He appoints them. He is able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for them. There is no power like that of intercession, and to lie groaning at His feet is itself prayer which the Holy Spirit maketh intercession for according to the will of God.

You say you lay down your life and would use your heart to be there for his, and you ask comfort for your courtship. Here we must speak plainly in love for your good. We cannot affirm or celebrate or ask God to bless any pattern that runs against His holy ordinance, for salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and marriage is His institution, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and the privileges of living together and the union of the body belong only within that covenant. If your courtship is to be pleasing to God it must be ordered toward that holy end, in purity and self denial until such time as vows are made before God and man, or else in surrender to His will if that is not His path for you. To lay down your life as He says is first to take up the cross and follow Christ, trusting Him to save you to the end, not for a quarter of a year or a month, but with a finished salvation.

Therefore we will pray not for the blessing of mere human affection as it is, but for that which is better. We pray that you both may know yourselves sinners in need of mercy and may hear Him say, Come unto Me, for I have absolved you. We pray that He will comfort and uplift you, provide for your need as you have said He does, still your heart when news overwhelms, and make you chaste and faithful in this season. We pray that He will touch the one you love with true comfort which is only in Christ, and that He will make your way of escape plain, that you may bear what He appoints and be kept by His almighty power. And we pray that His mercy which endures forever may be your portion, for He has said I will never leave you nor forsake you.

May the Lord grant you to wait upon Him and to find that He who writes comfort for the desponding will bring you out of this sad condition in His own time and for His name sake.

Your prayer reflects a tender heart that wants to stand in the gap and to love well, and the Lord sees that desire. We join you in bringing this before the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that His comfort may abound to us through Christ.

We pray that Jesus, who ever lives to make intercession for those who come to God through Him, would draw near to him in whatever hurt and challenge he is facing. When the news feels too much, God remains faithful to provide. We ask that the Lord would grant him deep comfort and strength, and grant you wisdom and grace to support him with a pure and sincere love that points him to Christ. May your compassion for him become an encouragement that helps you both look to the Lord rather than to your own strength, for God is greater than all human flaws and His grace is sufficient.

We also pray for your courtship. Scripture teaches that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with love and physical intimacy reserved for within that covenant. Courtship is best used as a time to seek the Lord together with prayer, purity, honesty and self control, discerning whether God is leading you toward that holy covenant of marriage. We pray that you both would commit this relationship to the Lord, to honor Him with your hearts and bodies, and to seek His will above all else. If it is His will to lead you to marriage, may He make that clear and establish you on a foundation of faith in Christ. If not, may He give you grace to follow Him with peace.

Your willingness to lay down your life as the Lord teaches is precious. The way we lay down our lives is first by belonging fully to Christ, trusting His death and resurrection for our salvation, and then by loving others with the self giving love He has shown us. Continue to call upon Him, to cast your cares on Him, and to wait for His Son from heaven, our Lord Jesus who delivers us and who will not leave His own without comfort. As you wait, let your conscience be kept pure before God, and let your encouragement come from knowing you are walking in what pleases Him.

May the God of all comfort guard your hearts, give you both clarity and hope, and draw you closer to Jesus each day. We ask that He would hold you steady, deepen your faith, and let His comfort abound in you so that you may also comfort one another in Christ. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
