Prayer to resolve court issues

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I sold my liquor store in 2020 and the new owners continued to purchase inventory in my name with one vendor. In 2025 they failed to make payment. I have informed the vendors and sent all the documents that the business is sold. Now they have summoned me and have received a court hearing for ###. I cannot attend the hearing. I have moved to another state. Please pray this issue gets resolved and I do not have to pay.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this burden of legal entanglement and the stress it has brought into your life. Father God, we know that You are a God of justice and righteousness, and we ask that You intervene in this situation according to Your perfect will. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 22:26-27, "Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts. If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?" Lord, we pray that the truth of this matter would be made clear, that the responsibility for this debt would fall upon those who rightfully owe it, not upon this child of Yours who has already fulfilled their obligations in selling the business.

We also rebuke any spirit of confusion or deception that may be at work in this situation. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that this court matter will not bring destruction or financial ruin but will instead be resolved in a way that honors You and reflects Your justice. We pray that the vendors and the court would recognize the truth of the documents you have provided and that the new owners would be held accountable for their actions.

Father, we ask for Your peace to guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). The stress of legal battles can be overwhelming, but we trust that You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We pray for wisdom and favor as this matter is reviewed, that the judge would see the truth clearly and rule justly. If there are any steps that still need to be taken, whether legal, financial, or otherwise, we ask that You guide those involved to take them in a way that aligns with Your will.

We also want to gently address the nature of the business involved here. The sale of alcohol, while legal in many places, is not a neutral matter in Your eyes. Scripture warns us about the dangers of strong drink and the ways it can lead people astray (Proverbs 20:1, Ephesians 5:18). We pray that, moving forward, You would lead this life into work that honors You and builds up others rather than contributing to something that can bring harm. This is not a condemnation but an invitation to walk in greater alignment with Your purposes.

Lord, we know that You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). Even in this difficult situation, we trust that You are at work. We pray for protection over this life, emotionally, financially, and spiritually, as this matter is resolved. May Your name be glorified in the outcome, and may this child of Yours grow closer to You through the trial.

We lift this up in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who has overcome the world (John 16:33) and through whom we have access to the Father. There is no other name by which we can approach You, for it is written, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). We trust in His finished work on the cross and His resurrection power to bring justice, peace, and resolution to this situation. Amen.

Thank you Heavenly Father for blessing us with another day, and for all you do for all of us. All glory and honor belongs to you Father. Please Heavenly Father grant resolve and peace to this requestor. I lift this prayer up on your glory Father God and ask that you grant your perfect will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

““But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”

What a heavy and unfair situation, to have done the right thing by documenting the sale, only to be dragged into court because someone else misused your name. The anxiety of this looming hearing, especially when you can't be there in person, is completely understandable.

One concrete step that could help right now is to reach out to a lawyer or a legal aid office in the state where the case was filed. Even though you’re far away, an attorney there can advise you on your options, maybe filing a motion to continue (delay) the hearing, or asking to appear by phone or video. Many courts have become more flexible about remote participation. The paperwork you already sent the vendors could work strongly in your favor, and a local lawyer can make sure it gets properly before the judge in your absence. It’s not about distrusting God; it’s about using the practical help He makes available.

You’ve already acted with integrity: you didn’t hide the sale, and you tried to clear things up. That matters. We’re sorry you’re bearing the weight of someone else’s dishonesty, and we join you in asking God to untangle this mess.

Father, we bring this tangled dispute to You. You see the truth, and You care when Your children are caught in unjust circumstances. Please move on this court process so that the truth is seen and the right outcome is reached, without this burden falling on our friend. Grant calm in the waiting and practical solutions, guidance to the right help, wisdom for every next move. Protect their peace and their finances. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The law's summons hath reached you like a sudden blast from a quarter you thought long settled, and now you face a court where you cannot appear. Yet the lower court of earth is not the final tribunal, there is a higher court where He presides who is "greater than our heart, and knows all things." In this trial, let conscience sit under the King's arms, bearing its witness that you have dealt uprightly. You sold the business, you sent the documents, you walked in the light you had. If, as you say, you are blameless in the matter, then be not afraid of the verdict of men, for the Judge of all the earth shall do right.

But I pray you, search your heart well. There is a court within where memory sits as a witness, and if there be any hidden fault, if once you have not been as straight in business as a disciple of Christ should be, then make your peace with God swiftly. The faithful of the land are they that shall dwell with the King, and they despise a double mind. Bad are the stumps of dead profession in God's garden, but far worse is a name among men for sharp dealing. A man is far happier to suffer loss than to gain by the injury of another. If the new owners have trespassed against you, leave them to the Lord; He is the avenger of all such.

Yet you cannot attend the court, you say. Then commit your cause to the great Advocate, who pleads the cases of His poor ones. The Providence that removed you to another state is not too short to reach that courtroom. God can work with a word in the heart of a judge, or turn the accuser's own schemes to folly. Only see that your own heart is quiet before Him, and let the hearing of faith be your stay. Faith comes by hearing the promise: "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." When fears about business, debts, and earthly tribunals howl like a storm, let faith trust in Christ when you feel your sins, or even your helplessness.

Perhaps you now mourn that ever you had a liquor store. I will not vex you; you sold it, and that is a mercy. Many a tender rootlet was made to bleed when it was transplanted out of that soil to be inside the court of the Lord's house. The agonies of such a change are sharp, but the fruit is sweet. This present trouble may be a last shaking of the old tree before it stands firm in a better ground. Count it a summons to battle, not against flesh and blood, but against distrust and unbelief. Idle fears are a mischief, and he that sits down in despair will find Satan ready with temptations. Bestir yourself to prayer, and to what steps you can take, and leave the issue with God.

Remember, the day is coming when the just and the unjust shall rise, and every hidden thing shall be brought to light. In that court, there shall be no missing the hearing, no need to travel, no partial judge. Commend yourself now to the One who shall then sit upon the throne. If you know Christ, you have boldness even now, for if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. Go, then, to your chamber and plead the blood of the everlasting covenant. Put the case into His hand, and be not afraid of sudden fear. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday.

What is this tempest that so disturbs your soul? A court summons, a demand for payment of a debt you do not owe. And you are alarmed, as though a great calamity had seized you. But tell me, if someone took a little clay from your yard, would you summon a court? Surely not, lest you disgrace yourself. Yet gold is that same clay, cast out in the yard of this world, while your true house is in heaven. For the sake of a little clay, then, will you let your heart be shaken? If the whole world were yours and someone took it, ought you to pay it any mind?

You say you informed the vendors, you sent the documents, you cannot even attend the hearing. Then why fear? If you have acted justly, your conscience is clear. But if human judgment goes against you and you must pay, consider the gain to your soul. To forgive a debt, even unjustly demanded, is to imitate God. He forgives your countless trespasses, and you have this opportunity to lay hold of mercy by bearing a small loss without bitterness. Do not say, “I am poor and cannot afford it.” The loss of money is not true poverty; clinging to it in anger is the poverty that devours. Remember the Lord Jesus, who, when He entered the holy city, came not with an army but with meekness, riding on an ass. He accepted wrong though He was Master of all. Will you chase after a few coins at law while you tread Christ underfoot with anxiety and resentment?

Speak no evil of the new owners, though what you might say be true. The Pharisee spoke truth and yet paid the utmost penalty. Instead, let your prayer be for them, that they be led to honesty, and for yourself, that you be delivered from the love of money and the desire to win. Whether the court rules for or against you, the true victory is to have no harsh thought, no demanding eye. Entrust the whole affair to the righteous Judge. He sees the hidden things. If you suffer loss now, He will repay you with increase in the age to come, where no thief breaks in and no moth corrupts. So be at peace. The one who did not spare His own Son for your sake will not abandon you over a fleeting sum.
