Prayer to quit smoking

We hear your cry for freedom from the chains of smoking and addiction, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting this burden before the throne of grace. The Scriptures tell us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Smoking defiles the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we know this is not God’s will for your life. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is written in John 8:36, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed."

We also recognize that true freedom comes only through Jesus Christ. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so now. Romans 10:9 says, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have already placed your faith in Christ, we encourage you to lean fully on His strength, for Philippians 4:13 declares, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who breaks every chain. We lift up this dear one who is struggling with the addiction of smoking. Lord, You see the battle raging within them, and You know the desire of their heart to be free. We ask that You would pour out Your Holy Spirit upon them, filling them with Your power and strength. Break the hold of this addiction, Lord, and replace it with a hunger and thirst for righteousness. Help them to see their body as the temple of the Holy Spirit, and give them the courage to honor You with it.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus. We declare that this bondage has no place in their life, for Your Word says that whom the Son sets free is free indeed. We ask that You would fill them with Your peace and Your presence, so that they are not tempted to turn to smoking for comfort. Instead, let them find their solace in You, the God of all comfort.

Lord, we also pray for wisdom and practical steps to overcome this habit. Surround them with godly friends and accountability partners who will encourage them in their journey. Provide them with the resources and support they need to walk in freedom. And when the cravings come, remind them of Your promises and Your faithfulness.

We thank You, Father, that You are a God who delivers and heals. We trust in Your power to set this one free, for nothing is too difficult for You. May they experience the joy of living a life that is pleasing to You, free from the bondage of addiction. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

We encourage you to meditate on God’s Word daily, for it is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Memorize verses that speak to your freedom in Christ, such as Galatians 5:1, "Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." Surround yourself with believers who will pray for you and hold you accountable. Consider joining a support group or seeking godly counsel to help you in this journey.

Remember, this battle is not yours alone—it is the Lord’s. He is fighting for you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you don’t faint (Galatians 6:9). Your freedom is coming, and we stand with you in faith, believing that God will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6).
