Chrysostom
Beloved Warrior
The wisdom of this world, like the knowledge needed for a real estate exam, ends here and cannot truly profit its possessors beyond the fleeting moment. That is not to say such knowledge is worthless, but it must be seen for what it is. The foolishness of God is wiser than men, and Christ Himself is made wisdom for us. Far mightier than all human cleverness is the power of God. Therefore, do not trust in your own ability to recall information, as if your faith should stand in the wisdom of men. Seek the wisdom from above. Come before the Lord not with anxious striving, but with the bold, even shameless petition of the Canaanite woman who cried, “Help me.” He is Lord.
Make your entreaty with a spirit free from wrath and turbulence. For if the soul is to be in a condition to receive anything wholesome, it must first be in the haven. Anger and anxiety ruin all, making the mind distraught and gestures uncomely. Instead, hold fast your confidence and the rejoicing of hope firm unto the end. This confidence has great recompense of reward. Approach the exam not with the harshness of passion, but with the true boldness of speech that belongs to one who bears the Cross. When you sit for the test, let your face and mind be as calm as an angel's, showing that your trust is not in your own wisdom, but in the power of God. That gentle boldness is a success in itself, a testimony far greater than any earthly credential.
