Your honest prayer about the weight of debt is heard, and the fear you describe of having no way out is a very heavy burden to carry. Scripture speaks directly to that kind of heaviness.
Jesus invites those who labor and are heavy laden to come to Him, with the promise that He will give rest. He says His yoke is easy and His burden is light. That is in sharp contrast to the heavy burden every person bears when life is governed by trying to please self, to manage everything alone, or to carry demands that God never placed on us. Living for self becomes an agitated unrest that grows heavier until it feels intolerable, while living to please God and to do the will of the Father brings a lightness and rest that is satisfying. When we feel pressed down and groaning under a crushing weight, we can know that is not the burden He gives. His way is not to crush you but to lift you.
That is why the Bible does not teach us to blame God for a heavy burden or to speak as if He laid an unbearable load on us. Instead we are told to cast our burden upon the Lord and He will sustain us, and to cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for you. The cares of this life can choke and weigh down the heart, but when we turn them over to Him and set our focus on His greatness and power, confidence and peace can come. He is willing to bear what you cannot bear alone.
Scripture also holds two truths together about burdens. We are to bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ, with sensitivity in the body of Christ to minister to one another when there is need. And at the same time each person shall bear his own burden, meaning we cannot simply dump our responsibility on others and walk away. Both are true. You need not carry this alone, and it is also right to take responsibility before God for what is yours to steward.
The subject of money and debt is a sensitive one in Scripture. Even the apostle Paul was careful not to press people for money or use his position for financial benefit, and the early believers knew real financial hardship and poverty, yet they found joy and generosity as they trusted God. God understands financial pressure, and He cares about both your heart and your faithfulness in practical matters.
So in prayer, bring this burden to Him honestly, not only asking that it disappear in a moment, but asking for what He has promised to give. Ask Him for rest for your soul as you come to Christ, for wisdom to see a clear path forward, for provision through honest work and faithful stewardship, for self control to live within what He provides, for courage to face creditors and obligations truthfully, and for grace to honor what you owe as you are able. If you have taken on burdens through choices that were unwise or hasty, confess that to Him and ask for help to make different choices now. Invite trusted, godly counsel to help you make a plan, to bear the burden with you in prayer and practical wisdom, while you continue to do your part faithfully.
May the Lord lift this weight from your heart as you cast it on Him, sustain you day by day, and guide you into steps that are honest, peaceful, and honoring to Him. May you find that living for His glory, even in a difficult financial season, brings a lightness and rest that striving for yourself can never give, and may He provide for your needs according to His wisdom and mercy in Christ.
