Prayer to be a humble child of God

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for Your mercy, grace, and unfailing love. As Your Word says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” — 1 John 3:1. Help me remember that I am Your child always, regardless of my status, position, success, failures, or circumstances. Build in me a character of humility, kindness, wisdom, patience, integrity, and love. Keep my heart teachable and my identity rooted in You. May my life glorify You wherever You place me. Amen.

We join with you in this beautiful prayer and we praise God for the humble and teachable heart you are seeking. Your request aligns with the heart of the Gospel, for we are indeed called to come to the Father as children, dependent on His mercy and grace, and to walk humbly before Him.

We love the verse you quoted, See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God, and we are, 1 John 3:1. What a lavish love that our identity is not in our status, position, success, or failures, but in being His. When our identity is rooted in Christ, we are freed from pride on one hand and despair on the other, because we know who we are and whose we are.

The Lord delights in humility. Scripture teaches us He has told you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God, Micah 6:8, and Doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself, each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others, Philippians 2:3-4. We are also reminded God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble, James 4:6, and Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, 1 Peter 5:6. True humility is not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less, and thinking of Christ more.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, thank You for Your mercy, grace, and unfailing love revealed through Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You for lavishing Your love upon us that we should be called Your children. We thank You that this dear one's identity is secure in You, unchanged by circumstances, successes, or failures. We ask You to build in them the character of Christ, humility, kindness, wisdom, patience, integrity, and love. Clothe them with a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance, Colossians 3:12. Keep their heart teachable, soft, and quick to hear Your voice, and guard them from pride. May they be like a little child in Your kingdom, for whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven, Matthew 18:4. Wherever You place them, let their life glorify You, bearing fruit that points others to Jesus. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to daily abide in His Word and in prayer, for humility grows as we behold Christ. As you see His holiness and His humble service, even to the cross, your heart will be shaped to be more like His. Remain rooted in your identity as His child and He will faithfully complete the good work He has begun in you.

We were grateful to read your prayer. The way you want to be remembered as His child first, before any title, success, or disappointment, and to be formed in humility, kindness, wisdom, patience, integrity and love really encouraged us. We are praying with you for that teachable heart.

We have found it freeing to remember that humility is not putting yourself down. It is living with a quiet awareness that we depend on God for everything and choosing in ordinary moments to put the needs of others before our own. That goes hand in hand with what you prayed about identity. When our sense of who we are rests in being His child, it does not have to rise and fall with circumstances. God cares more about shaping our character to be like Christ than about outward appearance or achievements, and He is patient as He does that work. Living before Him alone as your one audience brings a steadiness when other voices get loud.

A simple rhythm that may help is to start the morning with a brief pause to remember, today I am His child no matter how today goes, and to ask Him to show you one small, practical way to serve or listen well or respond with grace that day.

Father, thank You for Your mercy and unfailing love and for calling our friend Your child. Keep their heart teachable and their identity rooted in You. Form in them humility, kindness, wisdom, patience and love, and let their life bring glory to You right where You have placed them. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer for a humble and teachable heart is itself a sweet evidence of grace at work within you, for pride never prays to be made humble. To desire to be called a child of God and to have your identity rooted in Him alone is to desire the very thing which the Father has lavished upon us in Christ.

Remember that you are indeed His child not by your status, position, success or failure, but by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the root of every Christian grace. As it has been well said, how can you get the flower till you have the root. Begin with the root, which is faith in Christ. Come to Jesus today just as you are, trusting Him who bore our sins in His own body on the tree, and you may know without doubt that you are clear before the bar of Divine Justice and perfect in Christ Jesus notwithstanding all your frailties.

True humility grows as you look away from yourself and unto your Master. Our Master was never exalted above measure, and the more we think of ourselves, if guided by God's Spirit, the more reasons we shall find for serving God with all humility. The apostle learned to count his own righteousness as loss and to say, yet not I, but Christ. So let your solitary aim be to glorify Christ, and pride will have no room to shut the door in the face of your Saviour.

It is God Himself who must work this character in you. He made the heart and it is His tablet, and He alone can write His law there. Pray then that He would soften what is hard and write His Word upon your heart in His own handwriting, that Christ in you, which is the hope of glory, may be possessed and experienced, curing your sin, filling your soul with love to holiness, and bathing your heart in comfort.

May the Lord keep you near to Himself, for in His favour is life, and in proportion as you get near to God you enter into the full enjoyment of that life which Jesus preserves in you. May He enlarge your receiving power till you take in Christ into your inmost soul by the Holy Spirit, and may He build in you that patience, kindness, wisdom, integrity and love which adorn the child of God.

We join our prayer with yours, that your heart may remain teachable, your life may be hidden in Christ, and that wherever He places you, you may rejoice in your liberty in Him and glorify His name. Let the heart of God in the Bible speak to your own heart daily, and look to Christ and not to your own faith, and you shall find Him a very present help in time of trouble.

May the Lord answer this prayer according to His unfailing love, and keep you abiding in Christ, who loved you and gave Himself for you. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer is pleasing to God, for you ask for what is the foundation of every good thing. You have remembered rightly that you are called a child of God not because of your own worth, but because of the great love the Father has lavished on us, as the Scripture says. This name is not taken away by success or failure, by honor or low position, for it rests on His grace and not on our circumstances.

You ask for humility, and this is well, for humility is the groundwork of all that is good. As our Lord said, blessed are the poor in spirit, and again, learn from me for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Humility is the mother of all good things. Without it no virtue can stand, but with it the soul crosses the sea of this life and comes to a calm harbor. Ask then with all humility of mind, not only humility toward those above you but toward all, in word and in deed, and keep a heart of compassion, kindness, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing and forgiving as Christ forgave you.

I join you in prayer that God will keep your heart teachable and your identity rooted in Him. May He form in you patience when you are tried, wisdom to discern what is good, integrity to walk uprightly when no one sees, and love that seeks not its own. Do not seek an easy path, but ask for strength to bear whatever He allows, knowing that by tribulation we are made perfect and that He is near to those who call upon Him out of a pure heart.

May the Lord grant you to live as His child in every place He sets you, so that your life may glorify Him. May He keep you from pride and make you gentle, steady, and faithful, growing in grace until you attain the everlasting good things He has prepared for those who love Him.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, look upon Your child who desires to walk humbly before You. Confirm in this heart the assurance of being Yours. Clothe this life with humility, kindness, wisdom, patience, integrity and love. Keep this heart soft and teachable, and let all that is done be for Your glory. Amen.
