Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honesty and humility are a blessing to hear. You do not complain, you give God the glory for being alive, and you turn your own difficult road into prayer for many others. That itself is evidence of the grace you speak of.

The Scripture shows that God has a special mercy for those who have wandered. When His people backslid, He did not shut the door. He called out, return, and promised that He is merciful and will not keep His anger forever, and that He will heal the backsliding of those who come back to Him. He even promises to provide shepherds who will feed His people with knowledge and understanding. Your testimony that you are alive today by the grace of God is exactly that mercy at work. To be restored to fellowship after a season of foolish choices that nearly cost you your life is the Lord healing your backsliding, and it is right to thank Him for it.

You mention physical and mental disability as a result of that season. I want to pray for your health with both faith and honesty before God. On one hand, the Gospel of Matthew, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, quotes Isaiah and says that Jesus bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses, and applies that to the physical healings Jesus did when He healed Peter's mother in law and many others who were brought to Him. That shows that the suffering of Christ on the cross reaches to our bodies as well as to our souls, which is why when we take communion we remember His body broken for us.

On the other hand, Scripture also teaches us not to presume that it is always God's will to remove every infirmity in this life. The apostle Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh, which he described as a messenger of Satan buffeting him, and the Lord did not remove it. God had a purpose in allowing it to remain. So we can believe strongly that God does heal, and that He is able to heal today, while also trusting His wisdom when healing does not come in the way or time we expect.

Healing itself takes many forms. Only once in the ministry of Jesus do we see a healing that was clearly gradual, when a blind man first saw partially and then fully after Jesus laid hands on him again. That reminds us that God often works through process. The natural healing processes built into our bodies are themselves divine, because God created nature and its processes. And healing is not only physical. God heals emotionally and mentally as well, mending the wounds and scars inside. There is a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. The apostle John prayed for Gaius that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. That was a loving wish, not a guarantee for every situation, but it shows the correlation. As Proverbs says, a merry heart does good like medicine, and we now know how deeply the state of the heart and mind affects the body.

For that reason, while we pray for your body and mind, we also want to encourage you to keep feeding the spiritual man. We naturally feed the physical man every day, but the spiritual man is often neglected and left weak. Through prayer, through the Word, and through quiet trust in Christ, the inner person is strengthened. There is a physical world we see and touch, and a very real spiritual world we do not see, and God calls us to live in the strength of that spiritual reality.

So we will pray as you asked, according to God's perfect will.

Father, we thank You for Your mercy that has kept our brother alive. Thank You that when he returned to You, You received him, forgave him, and are healing his backsliding. Continue to feed him with Your Word and strengthen his inner man. We ask for Your touch upon his body and mind, whether through a sudden touch that can be felt, through gradual and natural processes You have ordained, or through the deep healing of peace in his heart. Give him a merry heart in You, and help his soul to prosper as he walks with Jesus.

We lift up each person he named before You. Above all we pray for their salvation, that each one would come to know Jesus Christ as the only way of salvation. And we pray for their health, asking for healing and care according to Your will. We pray also for their caregivers and caretakers, doctors and medical providers, family members, loved ones, friends, acquaintances, colleagues, and even enemies and associates, that Your will would be done in every life, and that all would be drawn to Your mercy in Christ.

We ask this in the precious and holy name of Jesus. Amen.
