Prayer request

You give thanks for God's goodness, and rightly so. But observe what you ask next, for it reveals the battle within you. You seek good rest, yet the true rest remains for the people of God, and we must labor to enter that rest, lest we fall after the same example of unbelief. Do not seek your rest here as if this world were your home. The hope laid up for you in heaven is secure; fix your mind and expectation there, and the trifling discomforts of this life will not so easily disturb your peace. God is faithful, and He will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able, but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. Whether it is the restlessness of your mind or the flame of lustful thoughts, these are small, brief, and moderate trials. He gives patience and brings a speedy release, so the burden becomes bearable.

As for your mental state and these lustful thoughts, do not despair, but neither be confident in yourself. Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. How many who seemed healthy have grown sick through remissness, and how many sick have become well through watchfulness? You must extinguish this flame by your own will, for the same choice that kindled it can master it. Consider the vanity and unprofitableness of worldly pleasures. The deceitfulness of riches and the cares of this world choke the word; indeed, lust, vainglory, and all such vices belong to the deceitfulness of riches. If you contemplate true riches, eternal life, you will despise these fleeting shadows that drown men in destruction. Therefore, as much as is in you, be ready-minded. Watch and pray, not merely hearing but doing, and God will make a way for you to endure.

Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly. The burdens you described, sleeplessness, anxiety about health, weariness in your mind, and the struggle against lustful thoughts, are heavy, but you have already taken the right step by bringing them to the Lord.

Let me start with the rest you are longing for. God has promised His people a rest that goes far deeper than a good night’s sleep, though that matters too. This is the rest of your soul, a quiet confidence that does not depend on your circumstances. We often think that if God would just show us what He is doing, or if our health or our feelings would stabilize, then we could finally relax. But the only lasting rest comes through faith, by simply believing that Jesus has already done everything necessary for your right standing with God and that your life is securely in His hands. When you try to figure it all out, or when you look at your own efforts and worry, turmoil takes over. There remains a place of rest for God’s people, and you enter it when you stop trying to carry what only He can hold.

That rest shapes your mental state. There is a real link between the peace of your soul and the condition of your body and mind. When your inner life is anchored in trust, it changes how you process fear and anxiety. God cares about you with a shepherd’s watchful, loving concern, so you can cast every anxious thought onto Him. Do your part in what you can control, and then commit the rest to Him. Fretting over what you might have done differently or panicking about an attack only exhausts you. You have already been given a promise that He is watching over you.

Now, concerning those lustful thoughts, you need to understand that the temptation itself is not the sin. Even Jesus faced the pull of the tempter. The harm comes when that thought is entertained, when you let desire conceive and lead you down a path away from God. The enemy always offers a shortcut to immediate fulfillment, hoping you will turn aside to the lust of the flesh or the lust of the eyes. But you have a choice. You have been called to walk in the Spirit, not to serve the old patterns of your flesh any longer. In the moment of testing, commit your way to the Lord right then. Trust that His way is life, and remember that the passing beauty or fantasy that tries to capture your heart leads only to remorse and emptiness. There is no genuine love or lasting reward there. Instead, let the Holy Spirit give you the strength to live a righteous life, one that brings honor to Jesus.

So as you pray, let your request for rest turn into a quiet trust. Ask God to help you cease from your own struggling and to rest where He rests, in the finished work of Christ on the cross. Let the health of your soul, prospering in that deep faith, bring renewed stability to your mind and body. May He grant you the deep, abiding rest that silences anxiety and the clear vision to turn away from anything that would draw your heart after harmful desires.

We are deeply grateful that you entrusted us with the privilege of lifting you up in prayer these past days. It has been our honor to stand in agreement with you before the Lord, asking Him to grant you restful sleep, to strengthen and restore your loved one’s health, to bring peace and clarity to your mind, and to guard your heart against temptations that seek to pull you from His presence.

If the Lord has already moved in any of these areas—whether through quiet moments of rest, signs of healing, a renewed sense of peace, or victory over temptation—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony could be a powerful encouragement to others walking similar paths.

If, however, your heart still carries the weight of these burdens, please know we are here to continue interceding with you. Do not hesitate to post your request again, and we will once more join our voices with yours, trusting in God’s perfect timing and faithfulness.

May the Father draw near to you in this season, filling you with His comfort, wisdom, and strength. We pray that as you seek Him, His peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. In His holy and precious name we pray. Amen.
