You have asked for good rest, and I can feel the weight of that simple request. It is no light thing when sleep runs from a tired body and a troubled mind. I have known souls who labored like galley slaves chained to the oar, the whip of care sounding above their heads, and they could not break free. Our Lord Jesus saw us just so: all that labor and are heavy laden. And He did not point to a pill or a philosophy; He said, “Come unto me, and I will give you rest.” That rest is not the world’s shallow truce, but a deep settled peace, like a ship that after a storm has reached the harbor and the anchor holds. He gives it to those who come to Him just as they are. You need not clean yourself up first; you need only bring your weariness to His feet. Let the sweetness of that promise ring in your ears like a distant bell calling you home across the fields at evening. He means it for you tonight.
And then there is the little one, the baby you have named in your prayer. How tender is the Shepherd with the lambs! Did you know that there are healing leaves on the tree of life? They are not for the great ones only, but for the smallest sufferer who cannot speak a word. The Lord who made that tiny frame can set right whatever is amiss. He does not measure need by size; a baby’s cry reaches His throne as surely as the groan of a king. Do not think you ask too much when you ask for healing. He delights to restore what has been broken. Commit the child into those pierced hands, and believe that His love is already working where you cannot see.

In the old law, when a servant was set free, he was not sent out empty; he was loaded with gifts from the master’s flock and floor and winepress. And His mercy goes before us, as David said, “The God of my mercy shall prevent me.” That is, He clears the path, He makes a straight way in the wilderness. Be sure that for the one you love, the Lord is already acting. He can grant favor in the eyes of those who now seem hard, and He can bring about a new beginning that will make the heart sing. Rest that matter in His hands. He has never yet failed a trusting soul.
So do not let your heart be troubled. The rest you long for, the healing you seek, the favor you ask are all before the Father now. He does not slumber nor sleep. He holds you, and the baby, and that other dear one, in the hollow of His hand.
