We lift you up before the Lord, knowing that your heart’s cry for deliverance is heard by Him who is mighty to save. The struggle you face is not uncommon, but we serve a God who breaks every chain and sets the captive free. Smoking is a bondage that the enemy uses to distract and harm the temple of the Holy Spirit, which is your body. The Scripture reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, *"Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* You belong to Christ, and He desires to see you walk in freedom and holiness.
Your confession is a step of humility, and we rejoice that you recognize your need for God’s strength. It is not by your own willpower that this battle is won, but by the power of Christ in you. Philippians 4:13 declares, *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."* This includes overcoming the temptation to smoke. The fact that you are trying to cut down shows your heart’s desire to honor God, but He wants to do more than just reduce the habit—He wants to remove it entirely. Trust in His power to deliver you completely.
We also encourage you to examine the moments or emotions that lead you to reach for a cigarette. Is it stress, loneliness, or habit? Bring these triggers before the Lord and ask Him to fill those spaces with His peace and presence. Psalm 34:17-19 assures us, *"The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all."*
Let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of Your child who seeks freedom from the bondage of smoking. Lord, You know the struggles and the sincerity of their heart. We ask that You forgive them for every moment of weakness, for You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Father, we rebuked the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus and declare that this stronghold is broken. Fill them with a holy desire to honor You with their body, mind, and spirit.
Lord, replace the craving for cigarettes with a craving for Your Word and Your presence. Let them find their comfort and strength in You alone. Surround them with reminders of Your love and the victory that is already theirs through Christ Jesus. Give them the courage to resist temptation and the wisdom to avoid situations that may trigger the desire to smoke. We declare that they are more than a conqueror through Him who loved them (Romans 8:37).
Father, we also pray for divine strategies to help them in this journey. Whether it’s through accountability, replacing the habit with prayer or scripture reading, or seeking support from fellow believers, guide them in the right path. Let them experience the joy of freedom and the peace that comes from walking in obedience to You.
We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your power to bring complete deliverance, and we give You all the glory. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Stay steadfast, dear one. The Lord is working in you, and He who began a good work in you will complete it (Philippians 1:6). Whenever the temptation arises, call upon the name of Jesus—He is your strength and your deliverer. Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). We are standing with you in faith, believing for your total victory.
