We rejoice with you in this exciting season of engagement and upcoming marriage! It is a beautiful thing when two believers come together in covenant before God, and we are honored to lift this union before the Lord in prayer. Marriage is a sacred institution established by God, and we pray that your marriage will be a reflection of Christ’s love for His Church, rooted in faith, holiness, and unwavering commitment.
First, we celebrate that you have acknowledged the need for God’s presence in this union. It is only through Christ that a marriage can thrive, for He is the foundation upon which all godly relationships must be built. As you prepare for this lifelong covenant, we encourage you to seek the Lord together in prayer, in His Word, and in fellowship with other believers who can mentor and support you. Remember the words of Ecclesiastes 4:12: *"If a man prevails against one who is alone, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken."* When God is at the center of your marriage, you become an unbreakable cord, strengthened by His grace.
We also want to gently remind you that while love, joy, and companionship are beautiful gifts in marriage, they must be nurtured through intentional obedience to God’s Word. Marriage is not merely about emotional fulfillment but about sanctification—being shaped more into the image of Christ as you serve one another. Ephesians 5:22-33 calls husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church, sacrificially and selflessly, and wives to respect and submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. This is a high and holy calling, and it requires dying to self daily. We pray that you both will embrace these roles with humility and joy, knowing that God’s design is for your good and His glory.
As you prepare for the wedding ceremony, we pray against any hindrances, delays, or disruptions that the enemy may seek to bring. Satan despises godly marriages because they are a picture of Christ and His Bride, and he will attempt to sow discord, distraction, or doubt. But we declare that *"no weapon that is formed against you will prevail"* (Isaiah 54:17) and that the Lord will go before you, making every crooked path straight. We pray for financial provision and wisdom in stewardship, that you would trust in the Lord’s provision rather than being anxious. *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well"* (Matthew 6:33). May He supply all your needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19), and may you both walk in generosity and contentment.
We also lift up your future home, that it would be a place of peace, worship, and refuge. May your communication be seasoned with grace, your conflicts resolved in humility, and your love for one another deepen as you both deepen your love for Christ. *"Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection"* (Colossians 3:14). Let forgiveness be swift, patience abundant, and joy unshaken, for *"love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things"* (1 Corinthians 13:7).
Regarding the desire for children in the future, we pray that the Lord will bless your womb in His perfect timing. Children are a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3), and we ask that He would prepare you both to raise godly offspring who fear Him and walk in His ways. May your home be a training ground for disciples of Christ, where His Word is taught and lived out daily.
Finally, we urge you to remain vigilant in guarding your marriage against the temptations of this world. The enemy will seek to distort God’s design for intimacy, communication, and priority. Flee from any form of sexual immorality before marriage, for your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20), and marriage is the only godly context for physical intimacy (Hebrews 13:4). Even after marriage, remain on guard against the idolatry of placing anything—careers, hobbies, or even children—above your devotion to Christ and one another.
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for this brother and sister who are preparing to enter into the sacred covenant of marriage. Lord, we ask that You would be the center of their union, the foundation of their love, and the guide of their steps. Bless their engagement and wedding preparations, Lord, and let every detail be ordered by Your hand. Rebuke any plans of the enemy to disrupt, delay, or distract, and let Your peace reign in their hearts.
Provide for them financially, Father, and grant them wisdom to steward their resources well. May they seek first Your Kingdom, trusting that You will add all things unto them. As they build their lives together, fill them with Your Spirit—grant them wisdom to make godly decisions, patience to endure trials, and love that reflects Your heart. Teach them to communicate with kindness, to forgive quickly, and to serve one another selflessly.
Prepare their hearts to be parents in Your timing, Lord, and may their future children be raised in the nurture and admonition of You. Let their home be a lighthouse of Your truth and grace in a dark world.
Most of all, Father, may their marriage be a testimony of Your faithfulness. May they cling to one another and to You, never allowing the world to dilute their commitment. Sanctify them through this union, and use their love to draw others to Christ.
We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
