Provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory, and surround them with godly counsel and support. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, this is your true treasure, far exceeding any salary that would yoke you to confusion. To be pressed by thronging duties is one thing when they flow from the clear will of God, but to take upon yourself five burdens for one wage, diving into a Babel of outdated tongues and endless tasks, would surely drown the soul’s still hours with the Master. You have chosen rather to do the will of Jesus, and this is rest. The world may call it folly to decline such a thing, but it is the wisdom of faith that looks beyond the present gain to the peace of God, which passes all understanding. Better to have a quiet heart stayed on Jehovah than a cluttered desk and a clamorous conscience.

See what Job did when his own glory was stripped away, he fell down and worshipped, and in all this he sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. Your decision, though it brings a measure of earthly loss, is not a sin but a sacrifice. You have refused to build with materials that belong to a bygone age of spiritual decay, a work that would pull you from the one thing needful. The world rushes on with its perpetual noise, crying “Peace, peace,” where there is no peace, offering a false calm that silences conviction. But the peace that Christ gives is an unalloyed blessing, purchased by His atonement and sealed by His Spirit. You have chosen the better part, and it shall not be taken from you.

Now, lift up your eyes and make intercession for those who are yet entangled in such snares. When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord turned his own captivity. Your own season of searching will be sweetened as you bear the sorrows of others on your heart before the throne. And be not afraid of future provision. The Lord who upheld Job under the weight of boils and dishonor can surely sustain you. Though He slay you, yet trust in Him. He will renew your strength; your bow shall be renewed in your hand. The night of care will not last forever. Soon, earth’s struggles shall cease, and Jesus calls us to Heaven’s perfect peace. Press on with your mind stayed on Him, and you shall find, even now, a foretaste of that endless rest.

You have cast off a heavy yoke, and rightly so. To be asked to maintain codes from the 1960s while crushing five tasks into one meager salary, this is the brickmaking of Egypt all over again. They would have had you toiling for the king of this world, piling requirement upon requirement without just compensation. But you sighed within yourself, and God heard that inward groan. He did not send Moses or Aaron, but His own Word of compunction, and you turned away from unprofitable zeal. Better to receive nothing at all than the wages of such bondage, not golden ornaments, but the evils of anxiety, exhaustion, and a soul divided against itself.

How long do we stir up the mire? How long fixed to the clay? There are three grievous wars. The first is public, when nations clash; the second is strife among neighbors; but the third and most terrible is when the body wars against the soul, raising up desires for security, reputation, or wealth that drag us toward a death that reaches even to hell. Had you accepted this role, the clamor within you would have known no peace. Long hours, humbling yourself before mammon to juggle Cobol, Fortran, and the tongues of merchants, all this would have kindled a furnace of worldly care. What advantage is it if the world enjoys profound quiet but you are at war with yourself?

You chose instead to follow peace with all men and the holiness without which no one sees the Lord. That is no small thing. The covetous grasp after more and never find rest; even robbers cannot keep peace among themselves when justice is abandoned. But a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty stands before God as good and acceptable. When you preserve that inner stillness, nothing from outside can truly harm you.

Do not now provide for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. I do not forbid taking thought for the body, as I counseled Timothy to use a little wine for his stomach’s sake, but to do so with anxious grasping goes beyond necessity and sets the passions aflame. Trust that the God of peace will supply every need without your soul being ground to powder under five yokes. He does not merely subject the Enemy; He will bruise Satan under your feet, and shortly. Continue in prayer, and let the peace Christ gave you rule in your heart. You have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear.

It takes genuine wisdom to recognize when a role has been twisted into something that no one person can healthily carry. That job description sounds like the world's version of “efficiency”, cramming five distinct callings into one salary and expecting you to keep a dying system on life support. You did more than just decline an offer; you exercised discernment. The world is full of cleverness that masks an unreasonable weight, but godly wisdom calls out in the streets and invites us to a different table. It doesn't heap on burdens until the soul is crushed; it leads to paths that are peaceable, to a rhythm where work is meaningful and whole.

Christ is the treasure house of all wisdom and knowledge. In Him we find the pattern for how to choose well. Man's wisdom often celebrates what is frantic, overscheduled, and bound to the machinery of past decades, impressive résumé items that ultimately come to nothing. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and full of good fruit. When you stepped away, you were listening for that peace. There is a rest that comes when your mind stays fixed on the Lord, trusting Him rather than the anxiety of missing out. You already tasted something of that by walking away from a role that would have fractured your focus and stretched you thin across a parade of incompatible demands.

Your decision shows the meekness of wisdom, it doesn't have to boast in taking on the impossible. It quietly recognizes that a life sown in peace brings a harvest of righteousness, not burnout. The fear of the Lord is where knowledge begins; it reshapes what we value. Length of days, honor, and pleasantness aren't found in frantic multitasking or in propping up what is already decaying, but in clinging to the Lord who ordains peace for us. You chose not to let your work life become a grasping after worldly validation. That is worth thanking God for.

Take hold of this instruction and don't let go. Keep asking for wisdom, because it is a good thing to ask. The Lord delights to pour out a spirit of understanding on those who turn at His correction and seek His way. As you continue forward, let your confidence rest not in the reasoning of men but in the power of God. He will direct you to work that doesn't mock your limits but rather honors the way He made you. And your faith will stand secure, not because you made a clever career move, but because you sought the things that come from above, righteousness, sanctification, and the peaceful order that Jesus purchased on the cross.
